my title says it all. basically I would like to know how to do a front flip(a flip with both hands on the ground, not a one-handed one) and, this probably sounds wierd but can someone tell me how to do a cartwheel? I'm trying to teach myself but it's not working because I don't know how to do them. 5 Replies to how to do a front flip and a cartwheel |

FOR SAFTEY REASONS:
You should NOT under any circumstances be teaching yourself how to be doing these acrobatics. If you are not trained, and are unsure of what to do, there are many, MANY things that can and will go wrong.
If you would like to learn these skills please contact a professional that will be able to work with you on how to go about it. You should not be looking on the internet for this type of information to try on your own. You need the help of a professional trainer.
Please stay safe |

Cartwheels are quite safe to teach yourself at home. That is really how the majority of kids learn to do cartwheels, in the playground at school.
For a cartwheel the trick is to think hand, hand, foot, foot. That is how you put your hands and feet on the ground. The timing is 1, 2, 3, 4. Most people at first try to put both hands on the ground at the same time. ALso remember to kick your legs over the top and not around the side. It is a good idea to practise on a line to get the idea of going straight. Also work on keeping your arms and legs straight. For catwheels its just practise, practise, practise to get good at them.
As for the front handspring, I would not reccomend you try it if you can't do a cartwheel. A front handspring is a much more advanced skill and it usually isn't learned until you have mastered the cartwheel, the round off, the handstand and the front walkover. But there are things you can do to help yourself get ready to do front handsprings when you are up to that level.
Lots of handstands for one, as they are the basis of a front handspring. Once you have mastered that work on the handstand hop. That is when you do a handstand then do a little jump on your hands. But the thing is you need to do the jump without bending your arms. It is the shoulders that push you up. Because this is what happens in a front handspring it is the shoulders that push the arms stay straight. Also work on a good strong powerful hurdle. Practise hurdling into a cartwheel or round off. You need to hurdle forward rather than up. |
