The foot pain that makes you hurt so bad in the morning sounds just like the planter facitis that I have been dealing with. A doctor friend of mine ( bless him) had me do several stretching exercises per day stretching the foot back in the flexed position. I also wore heel cups in my shoes, they are flexable and can be worn quite comfortably in dance shoes, and when the pain was really bad I wore a night splint that held my foot in the flexed position. I was able to make the pain go away almost completely. It took about a month before I was feeling better, but the transformation was amazing. If you want more specific information let me know!

Whatever this mystery foot pain at the ball of my foot is could go away any time. I have seen a Dr. and now off to get x-rays.The pain shoots up through my foot , but it feels like I am stepping on a bone coming out of my foot. After teaching for 4 - 5 hours I am hardly walking. Yes I have the orthotics but I am also looking for a sturdier tap shoe to take some of the pounding away.

So it's not just inflammation or anything?

Much sympathy for the pain in tap shoes feeling :(

No I don't think it is just inflammation.
Could anyone suggest a tap shoe to try - I have wide feet also so this causes a problem also when looking for shoes. The kineseologist where I get my orthotics suggested a shoe with more padding at the ball of the foot. Thanks

Lately it's been knee pain, but only because I had tweeked something in my knee when I had my hip out of place. Now it's getting better, and my hip has been acting up, but that seems to be improving as well. So currently I'm not really in pain to teach, but I have been! It's hard to show turnout when your hip hurts too much to do it!

Depends on the class and what I am teaching - it's back, knee and sometimes ankle.

That's way too funny of a question. What doesn't hurt? My knees some days, my foot others, my back always, my right shoulder, my neck, my hip flexer. I could go on.

Due to chemo and gaining 60 pounds in a few months, I put a lot of pressure on my knees. My right knee has bad tendonitis. I keep putting off surgery but it's really starting to go out many times per day, to where I move it and goes out. I sit and it goes out. I roll in bed and it does.

I may have to bite the bullet to get it fixed but I have had so many surgeries in my life. I can deal with the pain but I hate how it keeps me from really dancing. I am only 52 and feel like I'm 82!

JLL - I was going to offer my own pain issues until I read your post. I can't imagine having to teach while going through chemo. Just to give you some inspiration though - I had a student last year diagnosed with cancer and she continued dancing. Her doctors had said she should dance if she felt up to it, but they couldn't believe that she never missed a class. She wasn't always able to complete every class but she was an active member. If you asked her she would tell you dance is what got her through it. She is now cancer free and back dancing full time! I hope things just get better and better for you.

I deal with ankle pain every day. I've broken my left foot twice, and ruptured ligaments and tendons in my ankle. Two surgeries and many, many months of physical therapy have done no good. They now think that there is nerve damage. But this is not including my bad hip, upper back slipped disk and knee pain whenever I have to do something parallel.

JLL-you are in my prayers.

Oh my back... and the pedini femmes that I thought made everyone's feet look so pretty are NOT fun to teach in, even for one class. My problem is that one of my legs is about a centimeter longer than the other one, thus throwing off my pelvis, and you can only imagine how my spine is trying to make up for it. The X-rays are not pretty, I promise you.

I have plantar fasciitis too and I feel for you because It is messing up my world....Was surgery worth it? I'm scared to death that my feet won't be the same if I ever do it. I did get orthotics for my shoes and they do help out but you can't wear them when teaching so you can imagine what I go through.....Please let me know how you are doing now....

I just had the surgery in july. In some was I am better and some ways worse. But I am struggeling with my weight right not because of all of my injuries that it just makes it harder to heal when you teach 30 hrs a week. I took a week off and that was all I could do. I started to get ankle pain on the other leg and I found out that I must have broken it and DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT , until all the compinsating I was doing. I HAVE to get this weight off so I can dance without all of this PAIN !!!!

Oh yeah!! I have arthritis, so occasionally I need to wrap my wrists with ace bandages for pressure while teaching. I also had a dance injury when I was 21, I fell out of a jump and smacked my tail bone, m nerves shot up my back and I saw stars. I can't really bend the same, lift anyone or do sit-ups anymore. Having my daughter and being pregnant made the injury worse. So, yeah I teach with a lot of pain.

I have scolosis (curved spine)so I usually have back pain after a night or two of teaching. Someitmes my feet hurt depending on what kinds of shoes I wear. this week after my first week back to the studio my back has been hurting a lot, looking for a good chiropractor to see if the curve got worse.

The worst pain I had to dance with was just a few weeks ago. My boyfriend surprised me with a dozen roses and I was so excited I ran out to my car to get my camera, without putting shoes on. End of the story is that I got a piece of glass stuck in my foot and being a tap teacher, this was disastrous! After the stitches and the bandaging it was not a good thing!

Definately back pain!!! I have no idea what happened but the weekend of Labor Day we were at the lake and out it went. Nothing but problems ever since. I also tore my hamstring in half about 10 years ago. I went to therapy but it was never the same so I constantly deal with that pain. As someone else said, it's always something!
