20 Something Bra Storage? en>fr fr>en By funky_chicken Comments: 471, member since Fri Jun 20, 2003On Sun Mar 11, 2007 07:34 PM
Anyone have any good ways of storing their bras? Odd, I know. I just don't like crushing them in a drawer. I tried using a hanger but then there wasn't enough closest space. I make it seem like I have dozens upon dozens of bras..I don't! But the ones I do have I prefer not to wreck the given shape by a drawer....any help would be great 25 Replies to Bra Storage? |

Honestly, I just leave them on top of the dresser. But then I only have a few, so there's plenty of space for that. |

Oh dear. I have so many bras, I feel your pain. Plus, mine are all D-cup so the shape can be easily killed. I try to have a separate drawer for all my bras with cups and wire, and i lay them out and try not to layer them too high. The ones that are just for lazing around home and stuff just get chucked in the regular knickers drawer. |

Mine hang on the side of my cheval mirror. It's not very classy, but at least they are handy! But then I only have three wearable (i.e. maternity) bras at the moment anyway and all my others are sitting in a cloth bag somewhere in my cupboard.

I have an "everyday" bra and pantie drawer, and a "special" bra and panty drawer. All of the bras with shaped cups get laid flat in the drawer, witht he straps tucked underneath. I do stacks of two, because thats all I can stack without having my drawer smush the cups down. The bras without shaped cups get folded in half, and then I tuck the straps under the cups. I can stack these like 5 high before my drawers want to eat them. I'd like to hang them all by a hook in my closet, but I have a lot and my closet is really small. |

I just do this:
...because I'm too lazy to do anything else. I'm an 32F so I don't have a lot of bras, and they all do just fine in the drawer like that. Not misshapen or anything. My old roommate, though, had one of those soft shoe things that you hang in the closet:
She'd just slide them in there flat so that the cups didn't get squished. It took up a lot less room than hanging them up individually. |

Laulaa, your method is similar to how VS has their bras in the drawers. Theirs is just more of slightly angled and not as many in a drawer.
Nubra (the brand name for the stick on silicon bras) has a storage case that looks like it should work for one or two regular bras up to C cups. Please note that this is only by appearance online that I am going by.
Avon (which I do sell in my "spare" time) has a wonderful laundry set ( shop.avon.com . . . ), which includes a laudry bag specifically for bras. The "socks" multicompartment one can also be used for bras.
Hope this helps some.

I worked in a lingerie store for a couple of years, mspointe, haha...that's probably why they look like what VS does. |

Oh, now I see why you have so many bras. I don't have nearly that many, especially since a couple of mine had wires break through the fabric recently. :^( Any suggestions on things to do to help that from happening to my other bras? Why does that happen? Yes, I do machine wash and dry my bras (not enough time in the day). Thanks in Advance.
I just found this on Ebay: cgi.ebay.com.sg . . . . It looks neat, but I don't care to spend anymore time on laundry being put up than I already do now. lol.

It's what you don't want to hear- handwashing and drying. Machine washing is really, really bad for bras because they are so delicate. If you MUST machine wash, put the bras in a mesh bag (they sell them at VS and similar stores, but you can also just use a mesh dishbag from the grocery store...exactly the same thing), use the delicate cycle and cold water, and hand or lay flat to dry, never use the dryer (that's especially what can cause the underwire casing to shrink and change shape, which forces the wire out.) Also, sometimes wearing your bras too small in the band can speed up the wire migration because of the added stress and stretching of the band.
And you should have seen my drawer before I became such a freak size- when I was a size that could be bought for under $100 per bra, I had like 50 of them. I hardly have any any more. |

Haha, me too, Helen. I lost a few pounds and went from being an easy-to-find 34DD (Australian 12DD) to a nearly impossible 32F (10 instead of 12. Blech). My body shrunk and my boobs stayed the same size.
Anyway, total thread hijack. I'm sorry, funky_chicken! |

I only have five bras (I need more like whoa) so I just keep them in a drawer of this tupperwear dresser thing I keep in my closet. I never crush them.
I agree with Laulaa, handwashing is DEFINITELY key. They keep their shape ten times longer. I'm pressed for time and I still never throw them in the washer. In all honesty, it doesn't take that much longer. When I throw a load of clothes in the washer, I take out a bucket, fill it with warm water and just a touch of detergent (you don't need much, harsh detergents can ruin bras, too. A lot of people reccomend using natural detergents or specialty lingerie detergents.) and toss the bras in. Let them soak for a few minutes, gently rub the outsides (never enough to bend them out of shape, though) and then rinse off. I let them drip into the sink for a while, then I hang them up on hooks on my wall by one strap to finish drying.
I generally only wash my bras once every two weeks. If I had more time I'd do it more often, but generally the less you wash the better for the bra anyway. |

I do the same thing Laulaa does, although I have two boxes so they're spread out just a tad more
I feel so lucky... I just went up from a 10C to a 12C (aussie sizing) and thankfully bras are still pretty easy to find!!! I have so much sympathy for a 32F! |
re: Bra Storage? en>fr fr>en By oz_helen Comments: 7037, member since Sat Aug 10, 2002On Tue Mar 13, 2007 05:59 PM
Well technically, I'm an 8DD-E, but this size doesn't exist. You can't get bras smaller than 10 (Aussie sizing), so I am perpetually in ill-fitting bras.
This thread has actually given me some really good ideas about how I can keep my bras in better shape. When I had more in rotation (pre-preg), I'd just have them lying all over the floor. Maybe I need to respect the bras a little more.

I fold mine in half, so the insides of the cups are facing each other, and then store rolled-up socks in them so they stay the right shape. Not only does it look kinda cool, but it keeps my socks organized too! |

Helen -
Do you sew? An option worth looking at would be 'taking in' the bra from the clasp at the back... either moving both pieces inwards, or adding on another eye. |
re: Bra Storage? en>fr fr>en By oz_helen Comments: 7037, member since Sat Aug 10, 2002On Wed Mar 14, 2007 11:09 PM
Yes I do sew, but that's that's a fiddly job that doesn't excite me! Actually, it wouldn't solve my problem either, because part of the problem with the width is between the cups. I'd actually have to run in a small seam there for them to properly fit. And to do a proper job would mean detaching the elastic from the entire bra and then sewing it back on. A mammoth task. Oh the joys of being tiny.

Laulaa,
I forgot to add that your 2nd bra in the drawer (the blueish one) is a beautiful color.

Laulaa,
I am sorry to hear that your current bra size is expensive. It reminds me of my bra size (except bigger band size), when I was pregnant. Yes, there truely is such a thing as too big of bossom for one's body. I know, my body tested it out without my premission. I am very happy to be back down to my normal size.
Oh, here is the link to the bbt (big boob thread) that has some very nice stores that carry the bigger sizes in all kinds of bras:
www.dance.net . . . .
Here's another place to check out: www.herroom.com . The plus with this one is that it also carries some men's stuff, too.

Yeah, ladies, I know I really should hand wash my bras (and hose). I might be more interested in more proper washing of the bras (at least I do hook the hooks together being putting in the wash), if I did not buy most of my bras from the sales and clearance racks. I rather be able to take my dd on a vacation or even a weekend trip every now and then than to have the best bras. Plus, she will be ready to start driving soon. (Very scary to my wallet with how I would pay for half of it and she the other half.).
I was hoping that y'all might know of a way to fix those "lovely" popping wires after they have popped or pooked out. I am up for creative ideas. Yes, I do sew.
