 Cheerleading Pro-Con? Trampoline en>fr fr>en By DancerJBH4 Comments: 360, member since Sat Apr 22, 2006On Sat Apr 28, 2007 01:12 PM
I'm thinking of getting a trampoline to help with jumps and acrobatics. Do you think this is a good or bad idea? I'm 14 years old. I would either have to buy it myself or wait for my birthday (november)/christmas or some other holiday/gift giving time. I might ask for it as my present for getting all A's in middle school. Can anyone come up with a good list of pros and cons to this idea. I want to do my research before i make the investment. Thanks a bunch!

PRO's
Even if you don't practise on it it will be great for fun and fitness
You can practice you jumps well on it because it gives you more air time to get the positioning right.
Same with your acrobatic skills.
CON's
Training acrobatics skills on a trampoline can lead to bad habits because a trampoline requires a different techinque to get height than the ground. It is great when you are learning a skill to get the understanding of the feel, but doing it too often on a tramp can promote bad technique.
It can be dangerous, trampolines can give a lot of power and bounce you in ways you don't expect, being bounced off the trampoline can lead to serious injury or even death. It's a good idea to get a tramp with a cage around it for safety reasons.
Tramps can give you extra confidence to practise skills that you shouldn't be, if you aren't 100% on a skill you shouldn't do it on the tramp. You can cause a serious injury even though the landing surface seems soft. |

CONS
If this is for cheer, I take it, you learn REALLY bad technique, for example, you think you can do a BHS on a tramp, but then whehn it comes to doing it on the gorund, you have no bounce, the floor is hard, and you probably end up face planting.
Say for jumps, you think you have really good jumps, and you're used to the extra bounce, but in reality, they arn't that good, and you may get shocks (i dunno how to explain them? I've had them though though, it's not nice) in your feet when you jump on the ground.
All in all, if you got a trampoline just to bounce about on, but not do any jumps, or tumbling, you'd be fine |
