Reviews I went to the World Premiere of NYCB's Romeo and Juliet last night. en>fr fr>en By LeMusique Comments: 4424, member since Fri Jun 23, 2006On Wed May 02, 2007 09:21 AM
Yes, I went to the world premiere of NYCB's Rotmeo and Juliet. The music was great, it was PACKED...and BILL CLINTON was in the audience!
Anyway, the choreography.....was boring. They repeated SO MANY things! I could of sworn there was probably more than 50 assembles (spelling??) in one dance! And the girl who played Juliet didn't have enough "solos" like Romeo did. They did have a lot of Pas De Deux, but not enough either!
The balcony scene and the last scene were the most intense. And it was extremely dramatic.
The only part of this that I thought was cool was that we had good seats, I was there for a Cast Party with my ballet troupe, and that the day I went happened to be the WORLD PREMIERE of this.
Ok...You may disagree with me if you actually go to see this, but if you really put your spot in as a teacher and watch the show, you will say, "The choreography is not as 'exciting' as I thought."
I would too! And my ballet teacher even said this, she pretty much said everything I said above in this WHOLE thread. And there is this girl that is pretty much advanced and her next move in a ballet career is to be in a company, she says she thinks this choreographer was boring too. Atleast, I'm not the only one who thinks this.

p.s we were going to the bathroom during intermission, and we heard some one say, "That was just AWFUL!". Isn't that something rude and mean? 5 Replies to I went to the World Premiere of NYCB's Romeo and Juliet last night. |

Wow..lucky! I bet it was amazing. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as you had hoped, though. Romeo dances more than Juliet in other versions too. That is just the way it is sometimes. I have not seen their production yet so I cannot say much, but I have seen ABTs version live and on dvd. Their choreography repeats sometimes too, as does the music. Romeo and Juliet is definatly different then lets say, Swan Lake. There is a lot more acting than dancing in many parts of it. The first time I saw it I had mixed opinions, but now that I have seen it multiple times, it is my favorite ballet. Now I am really curious to see NYCBs production.
Oh and about that persons comment...yes that is rude. But maybe you didn't hear the whole conversation and they were talking about something else? |

Really? Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess, but opinions like that should be kept to themselves. |
