So I just graduated from high school, leaving behind my dance team. :(

My coach wants me to come back and give the new team a Pom Boot Camp, she calls it haha. We ahd some...INCREDIBLE dancers tryout for the dance team this year. Jazz technique wise....they are insanely good. However, most have never had POM before. They are very stylized dancers and don't really get the whole arm placement concept, lol.

So I'm going to come to one or two practices and show thme how it's done haha.

www.dance.net . . .

I plan on using these exercises haha. They will hate me...but oh well!

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I also have weights made out of sand and water bottles that I will sue as well.

that's pretty much all we ever did. just building up arm strength and stuff. be sure not to forget about the rest of the body though. because -im sure you know- its impossible to be a good or even half way decent pom dancer/ dancer in general, without the total package. because poms is more than just arms... just make sure that the girls know this too! so anyway - im sure you already knew this, but i just wanted to cover all bases-lol

To see what poms actually is will help greatly! Yea, maybe they've seen a few routines before, but try and show them some tapes of your team and OTHER TEAMS! It always inspired me to watch the top teams in the nation, it really gave me a feel for the different styles and the genre of the dance.

Then you could try choreographing a routine. Just a short one, with some of the moves they'll be expected to do later. It will allow them to put their practice of the moves together and put them to use! that way, its not actually soemthing they'll perform, but just for fun and for perfecting their moves and so the coach can see the progress.

So, that's pretty much it. its hard to teach people to be tight and have intensity- but to see is to do! so have fun and good luck!! :)
