Teaching Assistants Lyrical Warmups for kids (already posted, but on a different board) en>fr fr>en By Danzin_fool Comments: 236, member since Tue Nov 29, 2005On Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:26 AM
Hey everybody,
I've already posted about this on the lyrical board and haven't been getting much in the line of a response, so then I thought of this board which is probably better suited for my question
Anyway, I am an assistant teacher who will be teaching my own classes starting in September. One of the classes I will be teaching is a 7+ lyrical class. I never took lyrical when I was young, so i'm not really sure what kinds of things I could do to make the class more appropriate for that age level. Does anybody have any suggestions for things that they do in thier lyrical class with the kids, or did in class when they were younger? Any ideas would be great, I mean things like in the warmup, across the floor etc.
Thanks a lot!

The warmups and across the floor combos in my lyrical classes are pretty much the same as in my ballet classes - for technique's sake. The music I play is different though - I tend to use lyrical music in lueu of the normal ballet CDs.
The combinations done in the center are where I try to focus on the difference in performance quality. |

Where are these "boards" that everyone is talking about?? All I see are the "music" "ask a teacher" "general" "costume" (etc.) options. |

My lyrical classes for the younger ages have a basic jazz warm up. Across the floor I do some of the same things I do in ballet & jazz. I always have a combo in the center where we work on a move lyrical movement quality. |

I try to incorporate ballet and jazz together for my warm up. Plies in parallel and turned out, etc. I also do a lot of torso warm ups. Such as incorporating contractions and reaches with arms. |

I always do a combination (30ish seconds then add on) during my lyrical classes. If they are getting the technique from their jazz/ballet classes, I like to give them the practice that they need in 1)learning to pick up and perform (for their mom's ) quickly 2)expression their emotions 3)changing up the style of lyrical each week since it has so many different directions now and they need to be able to dance all of them |
