DANCE WORKSHOP EUROPE 2007
AUGUST 1 – 11, 2007 IN MUNICH
MUFFAT HALL AND I-CAMP THEATER

PERFORMANCES

Munich will soon become a huge stage! After the grand success of last year’s meeting, dance lovers will converge on Munich again this year from August 1 to 11 to explore the nearly endless universe of dance and movement at DANCE WORKSHOP EUROPE. In addition to a diverse selection of workshops for professionals and amateurs, there will also be evening performances, during which choreographers, performance artists and dance-(theater) companies from around the world will present innovative and multidisciplinary works of contemporary dance and performance art.
The British duo “New Art Club” celebrates its German premiere and kicks off the festival on August 1, 2007 with This is Modern. This humorous trip through the past 100 years of dance history invites aficionados to test their dance historical expertise by seeing if they can recognize the styles and epochs that the two Britons spoof. The “New Art Club” series continues on August 2 with a double evening featuring Dance, Jokes and Dance Jokes (a dance comedy about the communicative behavior of couples) and an exclusive preview of the duo’s latest piece, The Visible Men, which combines a dance performance and a game. Anna Konjetzky’s piece TransKali celebrates its world premiere on August 3, followed by a second performance on August 5. In TransKali, this Munich-based performing artist explores the moment of transition from one state of being to another, as well as the appropriateness of bodies in space. Swiss-native Thomas Hauert and his company will present Modify, their most recent piece, on August 4: Modify explores the charged field between choreography and improvisation, constraint and freedom; the result is a genuine firework of stimuli and impressions. Berlin-based Felix Ruckert and Matthieu Burner will perform water music on August 6 and 7: this piece uses a system of pumps, pipes and faucets to bring water into motion; rhythmic patterns, tones and sounds create a composition from the sounds of the water and the sounds made by the dancers’ bodies. João Fiadeiro will dance I Was Here on August 8: this solo continues the work that Fiadeiro began when he presented I Am Here in Munich in 2005. The idea of looking at things differently from another standpoint arose from this artist’s obsession with always returning to the same place: namely, to his own body. The Coaching Project’s Meet You in the Forest takes its spectators on a journey into the unknown on August 9: the Double Skin | Double Mind workshop with Bertha Bermudez Pascual prepares its participants for wald – forest, Chris Ziegler’s interactive installation, where movement parameters are put into relationship with the surrounding architecture of lights and sounds, thus creating interesting spatial perspectives. On August 10, the Spanish dancer Àngels Margarit will present Solo por placer, in which she concerns herself with traces and spaces which yearn for correspondences between that which can be seen, heard and felt. DWE concludes with the Final Lecture Performance: admission to this event is free of charge. Its spectators will have the opportunity to view the results of the workshops, which begin on August 1 in the studios of the State Ballet and Tanztendenz.
