2 questions....
1. how do you do a walk over??? ... and
2. how do you practice them????

The basis of the walkover is the bridge (crab) position. This needs to be worked on and perfected before you can move onto front or back walkovers. Lie on your back on the ground with your feet in close to your bottom and your hands rigth in by your shoulders with your fingers facing your feet and push up and try to straighten your arms and legs. At first it will hurt and be very uncomfortable but the more of them you do the easier they will become. To get to walkovers you need to do lots of bridges.

The stages of ability in bridge are as follows
1. Able to do a bridge with straight arms
2. A bridge with straight arms and shoulders directly over hands
3. Straight arms and shoulders past hands
4. Straight arms, shoulders past hands and feet together
5. Straight arms and straight legs, whith shoulders past arms and feet together.

If you can't yet do stage 1 then it needs to be perfected until you will even be close to a walkover. Keep working on the stages and as you perfect them move onto the next stage.

You won't be able to do a walkover until you master stage 2. Even better if you can master stage 3 first. If you are up to stages 4 or 5, you will find walkovers quite easy.

OK, once you have mastered the Bridge it is time to master the limber. There are three types of limbers, they are the back bend, the front limber and the back limber.

BACK BEND - Start standing up and bend backwards into a bridge and then stand up again. To master this at first practise walking up and down a wall with your hands and then try to rely on the wall less and less.
tips
Bending back
1. Keep your arms straight the whole time
2. Squeeze your ears with your arms
3. With your eyes, look at your hands the whole time.
4. Reach up first before bending back.
Standing up
1. Rock your body weight back over your shoulders first and then rock over your feet to gain momentum to stand up.
2. Keep your head back and look at your hands the whole time, the head should be the last bit to come up.
3. Do like a body wave and bring your hips up first, the shoulders head last.

FRONT LIMBER - This is where you kick to handstand and then allow your feet to fall over into a bridge and then stand up. Standing up is similar to a back bend but when you drop from the handstand to the bridge try and drop your feet as close to your hands as possible.

BACK LIMBER or BRIDGE KICKOVER - Either push up into a bridge (bridge kickover) or even better bend back to one (back limber) from standing. Then kick your feet over your head to stand back up. Practise by putting your feet onto a raised surface and kicking over then go to lower and lower surfaces until you can do it from the ground.

FRONT WALKOVER

Once you have mastered the back bend and the front limber you are ready to do a front walkover. This is like a front limber but your keep your legs separated the whole time. You place one foot down and then stand up with the other foot coming down last.

Practise down a hill to make it easier because the mometum will help you to stand up. Remember to keep your head back looking at your hands the whole time and bring your head up last. Also remember that it is easier to stand up the closer you put your foot to your hands.

BACK WALKOVER

Once you have mastered the back limber and bridge kickover you should be able to do a back walkover.

1. stand on one leg, to know which leg think of yout cartwheel. If you put your left foot down first then your left leg is raised up and if your put your right hand down first then your right foot is raised up.
2. Keep that leg raised up bend back onto your hands and kickover to stand up.

If you are having trouble bending back on one leg, start with one foot slightly in front of the other, then take it further and further out until you can do it on one leg.

wow that is a lot of great information, it helped me out, i can already do a front limber and a back bridge so i guess that will save some time. i will be practicing this summmer and luckly my front yard is a big hill. thanks for the great info!~

Yes, if you already have a front limber and a back bend, you should have your front walkover in no time. The only thing that tends to stop the progress from front limber and back bend to front walkover seems to be leg flexibility. So working on splits helps too.

Thanks for the info! It is so helpful. I have another question though...I sort of have my front walkovers. My feet stay apart and I can come up, but instead of coming up when my first foot is down I always seem to have to wait until both feet are on the ground. :( Advice?

And hey, after you master those, you can try doing it with both legs at the same time, then eventually jumping, to get you to do a back handspring!

To be able to get up on one leg make sure the whole walkover never stops moving. After you pass though the split handstand there should be no stops before you get up. Also make sure you are putting your first foot down to as close to your hands as possible.

hey
I can do a front limber things but cant pull up when one foot touches the ground (walkover)
should I try doing it fast or slow to pull up on one foot
