Flamenco and Ballet?

This may be a little silly but does Flamenco dance have any similarities of ballet?

A few (like the basic positions) however it's more of a historical root - the typical flamenco stance is a fair bit more exaggerated than the classical ballet one. Plus, there's footwork (heavier than tap) and castanets, which changes things a lot!!! :)

Flamenco also uses a lot less turnout than ballet (often none at all). One of my flamenco teachers in Spain (who had quite the temper) would often yell at me to close my feet because my ballet training makes me use turnout in most of my dancing!
