Well we had a short leadership camp today. It was for all the band section leaders including the flag and dance team captains.

It was pretty awesome to get all the information so I thought I would share it with you!

*The band director is ALWAYS right. Do not argue with him/her.

*Ways to get your section/team to trust and respect you.
1.Insprire trust.
2.Act consistently
3.Motivate with words and deeds.
4.Have confidence.

*You'll never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression. So make a good one.

*Positive attitude=positive output.

*Problem Solving*
1.Get to the bottom of the problem and try to help.
2.If you solve the problem thank the person for changing their attitude.
3.If all else fails seek higher authority(i.e. band director)
*Try to kill the problem the 1st time.

*NEVER get into arguments on the field.

*The three C's:
3.Competition(Friendly competition)

*The team will only be a family if the leaders make it feel like one.

*Don't make your section follow you. Make them WANT to follow you.

*Without any discipline, you cannot show discipline.

Praise suggest Praise.
Give praise suggest a change Praise again!

***You cannont be a leader if you cannot accept responsibility.***

If you have any questions are want more details let me know. I know this is very vague explination.

Hope this helps you in being a better leader.

I'm guessing somebody within your band went to George Park's DMA camp. That's EXACTLY what we learned at DMA.

What and where is DMA?

Is it Drum Major Association or something? Because that is what I think our Drum Majors went to.

It's Drum Major Academy. And that's exactly what we learned there.
