Poms needs help with fouettes and leaps.... en>fr fr>en By dancin9to5 Comments: 707, member since Sat Jan 12, 2002On Mon Feb 24, 2003 07:47 PM
I am having trouble pointing my back foot when doing split leaps. No matter how hard I try and concentrate on pointing it when i leap it wont happen. Is there anything I can do to help correct that problem? I mean I have high leaps and pretty good arm motion in my leaps but Its that pesky back leg that always messes me up and makes my leap look bad.
Also, with fouettes my dance coach says that I throw my arms out and that I need to round them more ( I dont know what she means by that) and that I need to make sure my fouette leg comes directly to passe. Any tips to help correct those things in my fouettes? Also, any special tips to help me perfect my fouettes?
I have my dance team auditions NEXT WEEK and I'm so nervous.
I could use all of the help I can get! Thanks

To improve you leap I would suggest trying not to make it so high. You said your leaps are pretty high and that might be why your knee is bent. If you work on the leap lower and getting your leg straight and then gradually get a little higher over time, your leg should eventually just stay straight at the higher leap. That could take some time though. Since you said tryouts are next week, I would suggest keeping your leap as high as you have it and work on turning your knee out so the leap is in a complete attitude position. You won't be able to do a leap like that on the team because its more of a jazz/ballet thing and not pom squad like, but the judges will be impressed that you can do it high and in attitude. If you don't know what attitude position is (I don't mean to insult you if you do, I just don't know if you have alot of dance background or not) then I would just suggest practicing the leap with turning your knee out and have someone with dance background watch you and correct you because it is kinof hard to explain online.
Second off, I only know how to do straight leg fouettes and from what you were talking about I think you want to do the more difficult ones that I can't do. But I got my straight leg fouettes good by having people watch me and tell me what to do and how to be fixed, what looks good, what looks wrong, etc. So I suggest you find someone with a strong dance background (besides the coach...) and ask them to watch you and help you for an hour or so and I bet you'll be surprised how much it helps.
Hope that answes your questions! |
