Western Ballet is seeking a full-time School Director and Principal Teacher to be responsible for the teaching programs of Western Ballet and its artistic performances, both of which center on classical ballet. The School Director we seek is an educator, who can nurture students’ artistry, technique, health, and personality in collaboration with faculty, staff, and parents. The School Director must present a clear vision of artistic excellence in the training of youth and adult students and demonstrate the administrative/organizational skills needed to effectively implement that vision. S/he must be capable of aligning his/her personal vision with the needs and ideas of others, working collaboratively and for the good of the whole Western Ballet community. S/he should be a positive force of energy and enthusiasm, bringing a sense of consensus and high self-worth to everyone involved in Western Ballet’s endeavors.
Duties: Working closely with the Executive Director, the School Director’s responsibilities include planning and development of the curriculum; recruitment, scheduling, and supervision of teaching staff; planning and implementation of performances; and the teaching of youth and adult classes.
Qualifications: A candidate should have considerable experience as a ballet teacher and performer in a professional school and company, as well as solid connections in the dance community. Success as a choreographer is a plus. We are seeking an individual who is generous, diplomatic and respectful when working with others, and capable of mentoring both children and adults. Excellent communication skills, creativity, professionalism, and collegiality are essential. Experience with staff supervision and curriculum development is preferred.
The position of Ballet School Director and Principal Teacher is full-time, exempt. Exact hours of attendance will depend on tasks. Salary is competitive, based on qualifications. Kaiser medical coverage is available. Western Ballet is an equal opportunity employer.
