Our class always starts with a forty-five minute conditioning and stretching. (some people only take this class, to help with jazz, ballet etc). But if you take acro you have to take his class.
Then it's the actual acro class. Each class is a little different, but this is basically what goes on.
We go across the floor with handstand exersizes, and walk across the floor in our handstands with different leg positions.
Then it's normally cartwheel/aerial time. We do all different types of cartwheels (basic, one hand, opp hand, 4 positions, cartwheel to handstand etc.) Then work on aerials, some people don't have them so they try to get them. The people who do try hard things, or doing multiple aerials. (my friend and I got our aerial holding hands, you can do without a prep, preceded by a leg hold etc).
We always have a walkover time. You get a couple minutes to practice whatever you need, then everyone does them at the same time. We do front, back, one handed, starting from the ground, with leg extension.
Then it's stands. Chest, elbow, hand(not walking), head, shoulder. Again our teacher lets us practice and helps us for a little bit, then we do them at the same time, trying to hold for as log as possible. We also do differnet leg postitions - which really helps with your control. Then if you can do that you try more difficult things. You can go from a bridge to an elbow or chest stand, or from a headstand to a handstand(so hard! lol). And right now I'm trying to go from a elbow to a cheststand, and I keep hitting my chin on the floor! haha.
The next part I always love, it's partner/group tricks! These are a little hard to explain over the internet! lol, but basically we try all different tricks, lifting, balancing flipping, and everyone takes turns being the base and the liftie.
Of course there's the jumps, turns and kicks we do. Normally we don't do these everyweek because it's quite similar to jazz. And we can focus on other things then.
Sometimes, when the class is practicing specific things others are taking aside to try new things. Because though our studio has been around for ages, we haven't had acro for that long this is the advanced class. Me and one of my friends are ahead, so this allows us to still be challenged. We do handsprings, front aerials, that type of thing.
As this will be your first year doing acro, I'm sure your class will be slightly differnet. But the idea is the same. Good Luck!
