I am a complete beginner to tumbling and there are 8 months until high school cheerleading tryouts. Is it better to take one tumbling class a week that is 2 hours long, two tumbling classes a week both of them one hour long, or would it not make a difference?

Both have their advantages. If you wan to progress faster you should probably go for the twice a week option. You need to train your muscles to do these new skills. Muscle memory does not last a week, only 3 or 4 days. Therefore when you do tumbling just once a week you will spend a lot of time reteaching your muscles things they have forgotten. While if you train twice a week your body will naturally progress faster.
Repitition is also the key to success in tumbling. Once again the more often you do it, the faster you will progress. Tumbling also requires strength and flexibility which is a LOT harder to train once a week.
The worry with the 1 hour class is that you will not have enough time to work on all your skills as you will need to spend a good percentage of the class on warm up, streching, strengthening exersizes and drills. But a good organised teacher will get it done. 2 hours classes are better for fitting it all in but many teachers or coaches waste the extra time anyway. I'd go for twice a week. |

Well they both are okay but faster progress which would do you good would probably be best if you took the 2 classes a week. Are those your only options? Because you could take two classes a week with two hours of tumbling. |
