The Stoning od Soraya M. (I hope I spelled that right) was probably written correctly or as correctly as book like that could be written considering where it happened. However, when they make a movie, they take creative license and I've seen them do that plenty of times. One in particular was a Christopher Pike book I had read that they were going to make into a TV movie. I hadn't read the book in a while so I made sure I read it before I saw the movie. The book was very exciting so they didn't need to do anything to the story, or so I thought. They didn't think so. There were parts in that movie that were not in the book, parts that they changed and they even changed the ethnicity of a few of the characters (on the front & back cover they were white). I was so upset! This was not the book I read. I wish they wouldn't do that. There are one series of books that they didn't change even down to the exact dialog from the book and that was the PBS version of the Anne Of Green Gable books. I remembered some of the dialog and had all the books so if I had to, I could look them up. Whoever did those should be congratulated. They were wonderful as books and they were just as wonderful as a PBS series.

I'm sorry I said Madeline wrote the Anne books. She wrote A Wrinkle in Time which I never thought was a children's book, A Wind In The Door & Many Waters, all in the children's section.

I just finished reading a really great bio. Sometimes I like to read them, sometimes I don't. Some bios have have what I like to call TMI. I don't want to read all the gory, graphic details a lot. Sometimes I do, most of the time I don't. This one had some of that, but not much TMI. I have to say I love a lot of old movies, especially the musicals. Seeing all that singing and dancing and all the costumes makes me nostalgic. I especially love them by this woman, hence the name of the book The Million Dollar Mermaid by Esther Williams. The book is 12 years old so who knows what happened after the book but she was amazing! I never knew how bad the movie studios were in those days and I never knew how the stars were treated. You will read it all in this book. I don't want to give anything away but she almost died at least 3 times because of the studio! Now that I've read this book and i know how they filmed a lot of her scenes, I so want to see some of her movies on TCM or AMC. I hope they will show them again.

Everyday Things in Premodern Japan by Susan B. Hanley.

Great book if you are interested in how people lived during the Tokugawa shogunate

I am the worlds biggest Beatle fan or at least one of them. I have read lots of books written about them as a group & as individuals. A lot of what I read I think is factual but a lot of what I read I think is not so factual. I've been to many Beatle conventions and the author was at the convention. She was very nice and took the chocolates I made for her (I have chocolate molds) to eat on the plane home. The book is called John by Cynthia Lennon, who was John's first wife and I know it's factual.

The other book I am reading now is an oversized book (our library has a special section for them) called Imagine John Lennon. Forward by Yoko Ono, Preface by David L. Wolper, Written and Edited by Andrew Solt and Sam Egan. It's photos mostly but there is something to read also. It was also a movie.

Another book I have that is also oversized and has tons of pictures in it is The Most Beautiful Villages Of New England by Tom Shachtman, photographs by Len Rubenstein. I can't wait to start it as I am from CT.

Last but not least is a book that will take me forever to read as it's over 800 pages. It's John Lennon; The Life by Philip Norman. I may have to renew a few of these.

I'm reading the Forest of Hands and Teeth right now... I just finished reading Ashes, which was quite a good book, but darnit the next book in the trilogy doesn't come out till september. Boo urns.

I've read 10 books so far this year. I'm quite proud of myself on this one.

I'm reading the Cassandra Clare Mortal Instrument series right now, after seeing it recommended several times on threads here. I'm on the second book and it's amusing, but I don't think its the most amazing series ever. I don't normally read tons of fantasy and I didn't think I liked it, but I think all I've ever read is Harry Potter and Twilight. I think I'm okay with fantasy as long as I feel something about the characters and there is character development, plot, and some sort of growth, outcome and/or lesson. I really want to see how the series ends. However, I'm really not fond of Jace right now, not even a little bit because he's being a big jerk to everyone.

I'm way behind the trend here, but I just finished The Hunger Games and now I'm in the middle of Catching Fire, the second book in the trilogy. I want to see the movie and everything, but I wanted to read the book first and that had to wait until I was done with school for the year.

I'm old enough to remember the TV show the movie Dark Shadows is after. I have some original pocket novels from the TV show that I haven't read in years. I probably read them a long time ago but I don't remember the plots. Since I don't have anymore library books until I go to the library, I took these out to read. I'm now reading The Curse Of Collinwood.

I just finished A Dance With Dragons by George R R Martin. No joke, it took me nearly a year to read. I've moved on to Soulless by Gail Carriger. It's cute, posh, and a little bit trashy. Just what I needed after over 1000 pages of politics and intrigue.

I majored in English in college, but my specialty was American Litt. My wife and I just got a Kindle Fire so I have been reading some of the Brit classic novels I never read in school. I recently finished "Jane Eyre" and am now reading Austen's "Emma". I also did Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi." I found a stack of some of the novels, Brit and American that I had to plow through in English class nearly 50 years ago, most far too quickly, and read them far more leasurly and without the pressure of having an exam or paper to write. Some of these include some early John Updike, Bellow's "The Adventures of Augie March", C.P. Snow's "Time of Hope" Frank Norris's "The Octopus." So far I've avoided Faulkner and Joyce, neither one of which I "got" when I tried to read them in college.

Ballet_Babe- I agree. Everyone seems to rave about the Mortal Instruments series, and having just finished the second book, I don't think they're anything special either.

LlamaLlamaDuck- What do you think of The Forrest of Hands and Teeth? I've heard good things about it. I read Ashes when it first came out last year so would you recommend The Forrest of Hands and Teeth?

At the moment I'm reading 'Geisha of Gion: The Memoir of Mineko Iwasaki'. Apparently it was written in response to Memoirs of a Geisha to reveal the true life of a geisha. So far, it's fairly bland. I'm hoping it's going to get more interesting as she gets older.

I've got The Maze Runner on the go (in the form of an actual book!) and I'm listening to Legend by Marie Lu which I'm just over half way done with. Both are very good so far!

I have several other books in my Audible library (Insurgent, Alas Babylon, and a Fantasy series that got good ratings that I used some free credits for).

Forest of hands and teeth wasn't bad... The last book was a bit of a struggle for me to get through.

I'm reading divergent right now.

I just finished the Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I'm not reading a book now actually, but have been reading a lot of Harry Potter fanfic! I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd...:P

OMG! We just finished watching The Notebook on DVR. It was really good. My mom is a big Nicholas Sparks fan but said she didn't think she had read this book after seeing the movie. I told her they probably changed a lot of it for the movie but she said nothing sounded familiar.

50 Shades of Grey. Haven't decided how I feel about it yet. I know it's supposed to be the best book ever, but I personally find it a little vulgar...

I know I would after I've heard people talk about what was in it. I once started reading The Story Of O. My friend had a used book store and he had that book. OMG! I didn't finish it I don't think. It was very graphic there were things in there, like Fifty Shades Of Gray that I wouldn't do in a million years married or not. Those kinds of books are not for me.

50 shades is basically softcore porn in a novel form... from what I hear.. I read the preview on my kobo a few weeks back and the writing is HORRIBLE...

I'm half way through Divergent... and my stupid kobo won't charge... I'm quite disappointed.

Quite disappointed.

I finished Soulless in a couple days, began reading the second book, Changeless, on Wednesday day, and just finished it. I am now moving on to the third book, Blameless. I received the last 2 in the series, Heartless and Timeless, from Amazon today. I predict I'll devour all three before the end of the month. Yay summer reading!

I'm almost finished Marieke Hardy's biography 'You'll Be Sorry When I'm Dead.' I'm loving it! It's made me laugh continually, get a little bit misty eyed and ultimately question Hardy's sanity.

Haha--Fifty Shades of Grey is erotica, just so everybody knows. If it seems vulgar or like softcore porn, that's because it is. My roommate was telling another roomie and I the other day about how shocked she was that it was "so..so RAUNCHY!" It made a lot more sense to her once we told her it's erotic fiction. :P

I finished Catching Fire and am now moving on to Mockingjay! I need to read slower...

Finished the 4th book in the Mortal Instrument series and it's time to quit while she's ahead and not read #5. It's like a good and evil twin thing starting now, I have an idea of how this next bit is going to end, and I'm moving on. What to read next...I just got a bunch of books so now I have TOO many choices and can't decide! I guess that's a happy problem though. :)
