Hello Hobbit

I just saw your question now.. a year later I guess.

I am working on a website right now, where I am putting the material I produced for this post, will include your questions in the revised edition when I have the time! :) They are excellent questions, as those type of music Can be used for Irish dance.

for example, a March is perfect for dancing hornpipes. (try putting on the Darth Vader theme from Star Wars.. spooky..) .

Kind regards,

Teashark

Very informative, especially which set dances are jig vs. hornpipe and the speed they can be danced at. Thanks!

Wow... I'm blown away. This is incredibly thorough and very helpful. Although reading music is second nature to me, I'm new to Irish dance and was having trouble finding a good explanation of reels, hornpipes, jigs, etc. Looks like I finally found it! Thanks so much, I truly appreciate it. :)

i still can't figure out light jigs, will someone be willing to sing it for me over a song? my teacher counted to 8 and that is not ok for jigs right?, I can count to 1-2,1-2 but if I dance I get lost because there is a part that has more speed or something. I can dance light jigs perfectly just can't count beats and its frustrating.
