I know I have two posts already on here, but I've waited months for them to move... I'll lock them if anyone is offended by my posting! ;)

I have a few questions about this coming year, and I just thought "I'll go on DDN and see how other people are going about it!"

Name: Nicole
Do you go by any special name?: Nope, just Nicole (or Nikki)
How do you get to the classes you assist?: I'm too young to drive, but my mom isn't home when the classes are (single working mom!) So the teacher actually comes to get me. But I live close to the studio. It's just such a huge city block (42 minute walk, I have timed it) that it's better to get a ride (especially in New York winters!!!)
Do you get a discount or any other form of pay?: You don't the first year (and this will be my second) but I'm too darn scared to ask my SO about it...
What classes do you assist?: Two ballet classes and two "babies" classes (creative movement)
Have you ever been at the studio so long (on one particular day) that you need to bring food?: Last year I came pretty close, but I never did. I always felt that I didn't spend enough time to need it... But this year (on Wednesdays) I'm there from 4-10 and I think I may need some form of nourishment ;)
Have you ever had anything that you fear might cause your SO to not let you continue assisting?: Yes. I'm usually afraid that someone will tell that I SI and therefore I'm a bad influence on the kids... blah blah blah But I think my biggest fear is that they'd stop letting me assist if they found out about my girlfriend (of one year and a few months) :O

Self injury, so yeah... basically it's self inflicted injury.

If you are injuring yourself. you should tell an adult you trust. Also, as far as not being able to assist bc of your personal life or relationships, that would be absurd!

I don't think it is that absurd, some people might have a really strong opinion against it. It might not even be the SO who feels that way, maybe she has some very pushy parent claiming I'm a bad person for it and that she'll take her child out of the school and never reccomend it. All for something very small that doesn't even have anything to do with the job I do. Just because I'm a lesbian doesn't mean I'm in any way a danger to children. I just wouldn't want an innocent person to lose business because of me. As for the self injury, thanks for your comment but it's a lot harder than it sounds. I've done it for four years and I don't think it's interfering with my ability to assist with classes.

If I discriminated against gay people there would be very few teachers left to employ!

I would be concerned at the self injurything. How old are you. We don't have any assistants under the age of 16.

I'm 16 today. Last year was my first year assisting, but I had to help when there were older girls helping the class. Like I helped Kacey (she was a senior at the time.)

Name: Brittany
Do you go by any special name?: The kids just call me Miss Brittany. haha.
How do you get to the classes you assist?: Either my mom or dad drives me. I don't have a license yet.
Do you get a discount or any other form of pay?: I get a discount on tuition. I get to take I think 3 classes free. I'm not really sure.
What classes do you assist?: Alot. 4 baby classes, 2 tap classes, 2 hiphop classes, 2 jazz classes, & 2 ballet classes.
Have you ever been at the studio so long (on one particular day) that you need to bring food?: Of course. I usually bring a little snack, or sometimes I go over to the deli or pizza place next door for something to eat.
Have you ever had anything that you fear might cause your SO to not let you continue assisting?: Nope. My SO would be pretty much lost without me. lol.

Well you are right about the possiblilty of discrimination. What I meant in saying it would be absurd, was that your orientation has little to do with your dance and /or teaching ability. It's be terrible for a person to be judged or mistreated for that reason.
