Will it mess up your legs if you can't do the splits and are pushed down into the splits

Being pushed into any kind of stretch farther than your muscles naturally go would most likely tear/strain/or pull your muscles. I have heard of people doing this, but I think that it is really damaging for your muscles. If you are trying to get your splits, it is better to stretch often and not to push too far into them.

Don't force yourself to go into the splits. It is bad like the above poster said. What's better is to practice the splits everyday. Eventually you should be able to do them. Just keep on practicing and it will get there.

Actually, it's not good to stretch extensively every day. When you stretch, you actually tear muscle fibers, and you'll improve faster if you give yourself a few days to heal between intensive stretching sessions.

but yeah, NEVER force your extension. You'll injure yourself (or at least you'll end up in a lot of pain).
