I own and run a small children's dance school. Every year we have a theme and I picked the Movie Theme thinking it would be so easy... it seems almost too open ended now and I am having trouble narrowing things down. Here is what I have so far...

Movie Theme Dance Recital Ideas

Mary Popins – “A Spoonful of Sugar”

Shirley Temple Movie ? “Baby Take A Bow?”

Annie movie ? “Let’s got to the Movies?”

Swing Kids – “Sing Sing Sing”

Newsies - “Seize the Day” or “King of New York”

Hairspray - Not sure of the song yet.

Cassablanca - "A Kiss is Just a Kiss"

The Wizard of Oz - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

The Wizard of Oz - "We're off to see the Wizard"

I have lots of question marks.... Please help


Any other ideas would be great! Please keep in mind that my students are aged 3-12 and I have done a Disney theme 4 years ago..so would like to stay away from a LOT of Disney. I will do a few though. Thanks!

-i know that you stated that you wanted to stay away from disney songs, but i know that when we play the high school musical cd at my dance studio, the girls go crazy! so maybe a song from that. =)

-what about something from:

-the wizard of oz
-chicago
-charlie and the chocolate factory
-dirty dancing maybe? for the older ones? i dont know. its kind of a strech. haha!
-miss congenialtiy - that one in a million song is one of my favorites!
-once again its a disney movie, but from cars - life is a highway
-harry potter
-pirates of the caribbean
-ice princess
-the sound of music
-the spongebob square pants movie
-the last mimzy
-over the hedge
-monster house
-peanuts (like with charlie brown. haha! i know a girl did a pantomime solo to "lucy says" that was from my studio)

*and if you still need more songs, try looking at soundtracks to movies! itunes is really helpful for this too! if you need more help just pm me. i really like this kind of thing! haha!

Grease and Sound of Music! I reckon the parents will love singing along.
And I think just about anything from the Happy Feet soundtrack will work.
