Ahhh the STREB company (the photo labeled '2').... They're NUTS.
I actually had the opportunity to take a class with dee Ann Nelson - apparently she danced with STREB for a pretty long time, and she had some kind of terrible injury recently (read about it in Pointe Magazine). The class was amazing, though! And SO scary.... The stuff they do is just incredible. I mean that woman could just fall down (either on her stomach or her back), and hit the floor FLAT AS A BOARD without even using her hands. And then she would jump up in the air before landing on her stomach....
She was so strong.... And she moved so incredibly fast from position to position. I guess that's the basis of their technique (it's called pop-action, if I remember correctly).
Totally nuts.

tybalt: I'm thinking (now this is just speculation, or rather how I'D do it...) that the girl would do a handstand, the guy would reach over his back and grab her ankles, then she'd proceed to "walk" her hand up to his calf muscles and arch her back. I honestly have no idea, but that seems the simplest maybe?

That sounds obvious, kerplooey, so it's presumably a pose for a photo shot, not a ballet. It looks rather artistic though a little strange with her face so close behind his back. Sorry they deleted the photo. I can't imagine, why. Do you know? It's by no means offensive! Thanks for sharing! |
