^^ Thanks, Maria! That sight of a site (Yeah! ) has some really great Stooges sounds -- but, there were a few that I was looking for, that were completely precious -- e.g. the scene in Matri-Phony, between the Soldier trying to find the redhead, and Curly:
Soldier: "What's behind those drapes?!"
Curly: "The BACK of the drapes! Now, are you going to buy this...?"
PRECIOUS!
And, dangit, I can't find the correct "server" to get the wav.
Argh! Going NUTS! Waitaminute! I'm already nuts! Going crazy? Nope, am there, too.... ahwell, you think of something...
(uh oh!)

Give Mama mondo hugs for me.
And some for you, too!

"Benign bony tumors of the ear canal (exostoses and osteomas) may be caused by an overgrowth of bone. Repeated exposure to cold water may increase the risk of benign tumors of the ear canal. Tumors may grow large enough to block the ear canal, trap wax in the canal, and interfere with hearing."

For me;
-- sinus infection:
"Treatment
Many cases of sinusitis will subside without the need for antibiotics. Self-care techniques may speed along recovery.
If your doctor suspects you have a bacterial infection, he or she may prescribe a course of antibiotics such as amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox), doxycycline (Doryx, Monodox) or the combination drug trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra). If the infection doesn't subside or if the sinusitis is recurrent, a different antibiotic may be warranted.
Your doctor may also recommend other treatment methods, depending on the underlying cause of the sinusitis. These include:
* Treating an underlying allergic condition that contributes to sinusitis
* Using prescription decongestants, nasal corticosteroid spray or oral corticosteroid pills to relieve stuffiness
* Taking over-the-counter decongestants or pain relievers
* Spraying a saline solution in your nose several times a day"
from: www.mayoclinic.com . . .
"Prevention
Take these steps to reduce your risk of sinusitis:
* Reduce risk of upper respiratory infections. Minimize contact with people who have colds. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially before your meals. Get a flu shot every year.
* Avoid cigarette smoke and polluted air. Tobacco smoke and air contaminants can irritate and inflame your lungs and nasal passages.
* Use a humidifier. If the air in your home is dry, such as it is if you have forced hot air heat, adding moisture to the air may help prevent sinusitis. Be sure the humidifier is clean and free of mold.
* Limit alcohol use. Consumption of alcohol can cause sinus passages to swell."
"Self-care
If you do get sinusitis, these self-help steps can help relieve symptoms:
* Steam your sinus cavities. Drape a towel over your head as you breath in the steam from a bowl of hot water. Keep the steam directed toward your face. Or take a hot shower, breathing in the warm, moist air.
* Take decongestants. These over-the-counter medications may help reduce congestion.
* Apply warm compresses. Place warm, damp towels around your nose, cheeks and eyes to ease facial pain.
* Drink plenty of fluids. Dilute mucous secretions and promote drainage by consuming additional fluids.
* Avoid alcohol. Consumption of alcohol can worsen the swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose."

Tinnitus
What is tinnitus?
Tinnitus is the sound of ringing, roaring, buzzing, or clicking that occurs inside the head. The sounds may come and go, be continuous, occur in one or both ears, and vary in pitch. Currently, more than 12 million people in the US suffer from some degree of tinnitus. Of these individuals, at least 1 million experience it so severely that it interferes with their daily activities, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communications Disorders.
What causes tinnitus?
Tinnitus may result from a variety of causes, including:
*
damage to the nerve endings in the inner ear
*
stiffening of bones in the middle ear
*
advancing age
*
exposure to loud noises
*
allergy
*
high or low blood pressure
*
tumor
*
diabetes
*
thyroid problems
*
head or neck injury
*
reaction to certain medications
Treatment for tinnitus:
Specific treatment for tinnitus will be determined by your physician based on:
*
your age, overall health, and medical history
*
extent of the disease
*
your tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies
*
expectations for the course of the disease
*
your opinion or preference
Currently, there is no known cure for tinnitus. However, experts suggest trying one of the following to find relief:
*
hearing aids - may benefit some people with tinnitus who have hearing loss. Using a hearing aid may help some people with tinnitus by making some sounds louder.
*
maskers - provide help for some individuals by making tinnitus less noticable. This small electronic device creates sound that may make the ringing or roaring seem softer.
*
medications - may ease tinnitus by addressing a problem related to the condition.
*
tinnitus retraining therapy - uses a combination of counseling and maskers. Otolaryngologists and audiologists can help a person learn how to deal with the tinnitus.
*
counseling - offers a person with tinnitus the opportunity to meet with a counselor or support group.
*
relaxing - provides relief for some people as stress may make tinnitus worse.

Each of Mark Simos' rich, new tunes on Clifftop Notes is an entry point to that special space that all musicians hope to enter when they play. The natural and totally comfortable take on Mark's tunes leaves you aware of the connection to old traditions, but also reaching to see what else is out there. It all makes perfect sense and you want to stay there for the whole ride. --Bruce Molsky

Edited by Shadowsong (106208) on 2008-01-30 22:45:50 goddamn tmi.
This one's an actual, real diary entry.
Whole bunch of stuff unleashed. Whole bunch of stuff blasting itself out of the niche where I'd kept it... magma surging upward... trying to aim for tears... NOT rage... NOT feeling victimish...
Mummum saw the local programming today on anti-bullying in the N.Schools. She saw the methods used, and how parents and students were all involved. And she came, and spoke about all these things with me... well, TO me, her speaking... going on, and on, and on... dominating.. what she usually does.
How it brought up a whole lot of pain, anger, rage, frustration, helplessness, WHY couldn't they do something about that THEN???? Tears, dammit, being treated as someone, someTHING subhuman... Why?! Because I'm PLUS-SIZED???? ASSSHOLES! IS THIS YOUR SOLE MISSION IN LIFE??
What possible pleasure could be derived from causing others pain? What kind of creature could live on this earth to even entertain creating and delivering such pain to others. Seems to me, if someone has such a "problem" let them be... let THEM work with it... who makes it the general public's business?
I'm even getting sneering, condescending looks from the physical therapy intern where I'm going. I don't need this piece of crap.
Fine, bitch, you want to succeed in life, NOT on my watch! That superior attitude? NO! You want to be professional? Then ACT professional.
All the years... All the years of pain, anguish, helplessness... crowds and mobs of people... ALWAYS in large groups, cowards, the mob-mentality...
And, when I lost control... and hit that girl... yes, people were telling me it was a great right-cross! But, to HURT her... How could I have let myself lose control like that. The one reason I can permit myself is that things had transcended the border from simply offensive, to ridiculous.. and I needed to protect myself.
God, take the pain away... Take the hurt and the anger, and the scars... scratched bloody... take them away.
It is one thing to admit one is related to gorillas.. it is another to act like one...
To feel all this hate, all this rage... which has been the norm... from nursery school, up to the present... to hope that I will be able to go into a job environment.. where hopefully this does NOT exist... Even though I found it just about everywhere I tried to work...
How that DORK OF AN IDIOT guidance counselor just said, "well, avoid her, don't go where she goes..." as if, that should just be it.
There are days when I can rule my depression, and there are days...
I guess this is a pretty bad one. All that stuff... coming up... BREATHE. At least they're doing something about it... I would have thought that when "Odd Girl Out" came out, both in book and movie form, more people would have done more.
Better late than never, yes. My parents, who hardly did everything, Mum, to say, "well.... you are overweight... "
Futility. Sometimes still feeling that I'm flying solo. M. HK -- "She's too fat to support herself..." Yeah, but if you'd taught me, I could have found a great cardiovascular way... the pain, the anguish... the misunderstood. So, I went to Scottish, and underwent the same kind of harassing.
WHEN if ever, will people see the person for whom they are inside??? If ever.
Pain. Tears of acidic salt down cheeks... ground. center. pull in the control. Cannot dance to alleviate extra pressure... cannot walk... agony.
Just get me through tomorrow.

consumerist.com . . .
The consumerist: Geek Squad insider speaks out:
"A common refrain we hear from the former and current Geek Squad employees we've been talking to is that Geek Squad used to be awesome. Robert Stephens built up an award-winning company with a reputation for being the best in the business. Then he sold it to Best Buy and they turned it to garbage.
One of these former Geek Squad employee shares his thoughts on their data recovery, outsourcing, upsell, and hiring of salesmen over techs policies, inside...
Geek Squad is a good company to work for. They have a nice ideology and cult-like attitude. However from my experiences working for GS, I have found that a majority of their Agents are rather ignorant about real tech work. Most of them only know how to run GeekSquad's MRI CD and Customizer. Hardly any of them even use ESD (electrostatic discharge) equipment. And don't believe the BS they tell you when they say "Our floor is specially treated for ESD". That would only matter if you are wearing heel straps, which they don't. Their prices are far overpriced. In some cased they charge double what their competitors charge. There are some very competent Agents, but most of them are from the pre-BBY buyout.
"Quality - We have an entire quality team whose responsibility is to ensure that our Agents have properly repaired the customers unit."
Was put into place after NUMEROUS complaints from Precincts and customers from the poor quality.
FACTS
1. Data Recovery is not a big deal. They hook it up to any random desktop, run a recovery program (license costs about 1k a year), and click recover.
2. They outsource some of the repairs via a remote access application (AKA AJU or Agent Johnny Utah). These people are in countries that have no similar privacy laws that are in the US. So in other words, your computer with your saved bank passwords, government contacts, ETC; are being accessed by "Bob" in India, Pakistan, and various other countries around the world.
3. An Agent's RPT or Revenue Per Transaction is around $250.00. Which means if you are spending less than that, their goal is to get you to spend more.
4. Geek Squad hires people based on their Salesmen and Customer Service skills before they hire on their Technical Prowess. They would rather Train a salesman to be a tech than train a tech to be a salesman.
Based on what's been said here and previously, you might be better off taking your computer elsewhere for repairs. Unless you like the idea of a guy who used to work at Taco Bell fondling your laptop. Now we're sure there's some competent and even talented and enthusiastic folks doing repairs for Geek Squad, but there's enough of them that aren't to raise concerns for consumers. — BEN POPKEN
