MYSPACE- FRIENDS AND FUN... OR DANGEROUS RISKS?
BY: MANDY
I have went undercover... and have been put in danger to get the scoop on my first undercover report... Here it goes.
Everyone has their own opinions on Myspace, but what is majority saying? I've checked up with some people I know, and some in which I do not. I am using nicknames, and not saying the sites I got my information from, to protect the person/site. It was also requested.
First, I went to a site that knows the most about Myspace, the site itself, and interviewed some friends. They are younger, so their answers may be similar. I got the truth out of them, though, going undercover on a "Myspace Interviewers" profile. (I will be using that for some future undercover reports, also.)
The first person I interviewed was Cotton Headed Ninny Muggin*, a girl who loves Myspace more than anyone I know...
I asked her the same questions that everyone else was asked, and put her answers into a paragraph. So what you're reading is exactly what she said.
Her response is as follows:
"Well, personally," CHNM began, "I think Myspace is very safe, and all about friends and fun. Why would Tom make it if it wasn't? I'll go there to talk to my buds, because maybe phones aren't fast enough. I am under 13, and I've been safe since I had this, and I do the same things older people do too. I'm one of those people who get on to talk with people I know and like, to chat with them, or get comments and messages about my pics and stuff. Basically, it's friends and fun, unless you don't stay safe."
CHNM also added that she hates when people tell her not to have a Myspace, because she's too young. That is one girl who definitely stands behind her opinion. But now, let's look at Liamoo*'s response, an older friend of mine.
"Sometimes it can be dangerous, because freaky people get on, especially for people that are younger. It's ok to talk to your friends, it's fun. But you decide if you like, get stalkers. Most people get on Myspace to talk to friends near and far, and to meet new ones usually near. I get tons of comments, and reply to every single one, then I talk to people who are online. That's safe. Myspace is cool, not dangerous."
Both girls on Myspace seem to follow the same opinion. Hmmm... what will the boards on a certain website say? (It is not Myspace, or DDN, but a less used site.)
One topic that I posted one about Myspace and Safety got many replies. Here is what dogboy5236 posted:
"Myspace is for people 13 and over. So why are like, 9 year olds getting one? It's dangerous, because they don't know what's risky, and what's not. They only get on to look at layouts and colorful things, because I have a brother that does that. It's dangerous for younger people, but fun and friends for older people."
Myspace is a big debate, that has been going on, that will be in the near future. But for now, I think it's been settled that Myspace is friends and fun, not dangerous. I got many responses backing this statement, from all ages. Feel free to message me with your opinion, even though it will not be featured in the article.
Be sure to to look out for my next undercover report! What should it be about? You tell me! Perhaps about pets, maybe about the goofy laws, or something else! Message me and submit an idea! I'll go undercover to get any demanded story! Thanks, and PEACE!
Thank you for reading.. MORE POSTS ARE COMING SOON!! 3 Replies to 1/14/08 Fouette Newsletter Issue I | re: 1/14/08 Fouette Newsletter Issue I en>fr fr>en By Becky Comments: 1369, member since Sun Dec 03, 2006On Tue Jan 15, 2008 10:25 PM

Fouette's own Dance story.
Butterfly Art
She dropped her worn but loved pink Bloch bag on the floor close to the familiar tattered but completely customized dance bag of her confident, friend and dance partner, Adam. She glanced at the various other bags scattered around her, many of them brand new.
She smiled to herself as she pulled the dance team’s signature shirt from her bag and her favourite pair of odd socks. She did not need to wear expensive dance shoes to prove she was a dancer, she preferred to feel the floor when she moved across it.
She pulled the top over her head covering her brightly decorated crop top and tanned stomach as she walked towards the small clump of dancers sitting in the middle of the floor chatting and stretching. Scanning the small yet enthusiastic audience for familiar faces gave her nothing but cute smiles and jealous looks. Sighing, Holly sat on the floor to put her socks on and stretch out a sore hamstring muscle.
It was only a rehearsal but due to the simple fact that the school had offered their space for practicing, it had to be open for public view or at least the selected group of students with a free period. It was good publicity at any rate.
A door behind her slammed and everyone scattered to a place at the barre. Mr Eric Baton, a professional choreographer and dancer, charitable man and their dance teacher entered the room. Their traditional warn up music started as each dancer who belonged to the dance team moved in complete sync with one other. After they completed a simple barre routine, the music changed to an upbeat dance remix as they all dropped to the floor to stretch and ready their muscles for the next 2hours of their life.
Their mission? To raise money for the newly founded Butterfly Art Foundation in memory of Holly’s parents. Holly had actually lost her parents in a car crash, but she knew it was their wish to start a foundation that helped families in desperate need of support and financial solutions due to medical conditions. Holly’s father had always been there for her, and she knew that it would make him proud that she could support families around the country who needed it most.
They moved it different towns and cities around the country, held auditions for dancers and Eric would choreograph dances for the Butterfly Art Charity performance. Each town had a difference theme and group of people. Schools, councils, companies and locals would provide them with the space to practice and the resources. Hundreds would come to the performance, cheering, donating money, and offering their services. They were schooled while on their tour, from long distance communication, sometimes taking a few classes if the local school allowed it.
Holly caught Adams eye as he rested his head on the ground, slowly counting to 15. He smiled and mouthed the simple word of “sunshine”, knowing that it would instantly make her feel better. She and Adam sat up, and moved closer to see if they scope out the talent of their new and enthusiastic bunch of dances. Holly had an eye for figuring out people before she met them. Eric moved towards the group, introducing himself and his dancers starting with Holly and Eric then moving onto Tom, Ashlee, Allie and Cameron then to Sara, Isabelle, Brooke, continuing on to mention that Anthony couldn’t be with them today due to family commitments. Each dancer from the team had different preferred styles, strengths and weaknesses. It made them work together so much better.
They stood up and moved closer to each other, debating which opening routine they would do.
“This group is obliviously a group of dancers, who appear to be interested in whatever we throw at them. None of them seem overwhelmed at the warm up and they all seem to be able to stretch” spoke Ashlee with her usual confidence.
“Yeah I agree. We haven’t done contemporary yet. Remember that dance Eric and Holly danced a year or so ago at the Annual Concert? Elisa I think the artist was?” replied Tom, suddenly interested in the conversation.
“Dancing by Elisa. That was an amazing dance. Really emotional… Maybe… If your okay with it Holly, we could devote it to ….” Isabelle spoke for the first time but broke off not wanting to say the word.
“My parents… Isabelle! That’s an amazing idea.” Moving close to give her a hug “I would love that. If that wants everyone wants to do” Holly glanced around to see everyone smiling and nodding their heads.
Adam took her hand and moved her towards the center of the room, going over the basics of the dance. Tom went over to the sounds room, searching his Ipod for the track.
“Adam, what if they don’t go for something like this? What if...” Holly was shushed by Adams finger moving towards her lips. Quieting her. Holly lacked confidence over her own ability. She needed a prod in the right direction and a reassuring hand.
Holly could hear the slow and quiet music begin to filter out of the speakers as she found her feet and stood in the beginning pose. The music, as it had done a year ago, took over the body, as she moved the emotional steps of the dance. Their small audience had gone dead silent from the chatter that filled the room only minutes before. Holly took a glimpse at the audience, surprised to see them mesmerised and content. As Adam wrapped his arms around her to finish the dance, applause filled her ears and made her smile. Adam, letting go of Holly only to slip an arm around her waist, smiled at Holly and watched curiously as a single teenage boy stood up in the audience. The audience grew quiet once again.
“Holly” he called out.
She turned to the audience at the sound of her name. Focusing on his features, trying to recognise him. It clicked. She knew who he was. Someone she had never expected to see again was standing in front of her.
To be continued...
If you have any questions about THIS chapter of the story please feel free to PM. WARNING: I will NOT be giving away spoilers!

THE FIVE TIPS OF THE WEEK
TURNS
1. Think up not around
2. Really PUSH the floor with your supporting leg while your head tries to go through the roof
3. Stick the tip of your fingers together, stick your toes to your knees
4. Really turnout your working leg because constantly pushing it back makes you turn more
5. Spot! One trick is to think of a word that has the same number of letters then how many turns you want to do. Every time you spot, say or think of one letter, e.g.: I pick the word fun so it goes preparation, turn, spot 1= F, spot 2= U, spot 3= N
A really good site about the science behind pirouettes is www.dancepages.com . . .
If you have any tips/tricks about anything (involving dance) that you want to share with the fouette dorm, don't be shy and PM me! | |
