Hey guys and gals!
A member has come up with this idea and I just wanted to see more peoples opinions on this. It all started with this post:
Who is the main person in charge of VIS?.
Then she went and posted threads in each dorm slightly later:

Arabesque: www.dance.net . . .
Attitude: www.dance.net . . .
Fouette: www.dance.net . . .
Plie: www.dance.net . . .

I think it will be easier if everyone just puts their opinions in one place so everyone can see them.

Here is what we need your opinion on:

Do you think that we should combine the dorms into 2 total dorms instead of 4?: No. I've posted my thoughts already in the post she posted in our dorm.

I'm not sure. There are dorms such a Plie, which have posts from 2005/2006 on the first page of their dorm pages. Which shows how inactive the dorm has been for a while. I think new members to this dorm get put off by this and don't bother coming back.

I don't think Plie Dorm even had a head!

Maybe for the short term 2 dorms may be better just to keep things active and attract to members, that way at least there will be some organisation and activities going on.

But to be honest I'm not sure. Each dorm has their own way of running things and like you have stated previously there are usually times of inactiveness,etc.

What about three dorms? Maybe just keep Attitude, Arabesque and Fouette since they seem to always be the most active?

That I could agree with.
I don't think its fair to put together the dorms that ARE active, because Fouette is doing fine, and we've just had a whole bunch of changes, and I don't think it would be cool if we had to give that up, and start all over.

I completely agree, Mandy. I don't think it is fair to ask active dorms to change. I like the idea of three dorms though.

I honestly don't like the idea of having one or two big dorms. I think it would be too overcrowded, plus I like having smaller dorms. You know everybody and everybody knows you. It's easier to get to know eachother.

Three dorms would not be bad, because for the most part we do have three dorms. Plie I is not that active. In fact there may be 2 (at most) active members in that dorm. So three dorms would be almost like what we have now, with the exception of having 1 more person in the dorm.

The thing is people come and go. Right now Fouette is the most active, but it used to be that Attitude was most active. And as hard as we may try to keep our dorm active, sometimes it just doesn't happen that way. In fact, Fouette is becoming less active. The last reply was made by me a while ago. It used to be that there would be atleast three posts a day.

I say we should try three. I am coming to like the idea. But, if it turns out to not go as well as we expected we could always change it back.

My suggestion:
Don't delete the Plie section yet. Just send new members to the other three dorms and put the active members of Plie in a different dorm for the time being. If everything works out as planned, then the heads can decide to delete the Plie section. If we decide that it was better having four dorms, the Plie Dorm is right there. You can start off right where you left off. This way, there is not so much work for poor Andrew.

What do you all think of that?

Woah. This again? Ha last time this topic got brought up I got told to stop posting my opinion in the dorm where Im the head. *rolls eyes*

I dont like the idea of 2 dorms. Fouette, for example just went through weeks of getting new positions up and running and polls etc. There is no way anyone would want to go through that again if were changed it to two dorms. Each of the dorms go through in activeness but I do agree the Plie never seemed to get off the ground.

Another thing, is I know it Fouette. There is alot of Chiefs and not enough Indians? I think there is too many people with positions and not enough to participate.

I agree with three dorms. But as ^ said. Don't delete Plie. Maybe just wipe it for the time being? Like maybe we could re assign the members of Plie to the other three dorms. If the other dorms get too crowded, then maybe a few super active members can go over to Plie and start it up again.

Every dorm goes through all the active and inactive stages. Its the way it works. All of the boards do!

I like that idea. I think I will make a poll about and see other members thoughts.

Experienced members being who? Are these experienced members active?
I don't think that we need more experienced members (at least not in Fouette), because new faces seem to be more eager to be active than the people who have been around forever. New faces are always good to see, especially in charge. I think that it is good, because new people will be: Eager to be active, have new ideas, and want to help out.
But that's just me.

^^She was only meaning more experienced member in Plie to help out, not in all the dorms.

We have been sending new members over to Plie, but none have taken charge and made things happen.

Experience members? Anyone who is active more than say a month and willing to help. They aren't going to be full members of the dorm, just help get it started.

I'm in Plie, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I am the only active member. Which can make the dorm quite lonely. I'm not sure if we should combine them. I like the idea of 3 dorms. Maybe someone could adopt me? (or any other members that may come out) Or if more show up we can re-open it? Plie doesn't have anyone in position, and I think people in Plie see no ones there so they don't stay. Something should be done, what I don't know.

^^I think you are quite right, and I think any dorm is really willing to adopt you. You are more than welcome to come to Arabesque.

Echo; Are you implying that just because I've been around here for five years does not mean I'm willing to help out? You'd be surprised how many newbies I've seen try and take over and disappear in a month. Not attacking you or anything.

So is it official, are we going to only have 3 dorms? Because I'd love some more active people in Arabesque!

Three dorms sounds like a good idea to me. Two dorms would be too crowded and less VIS-y. In my opinion, one of the biggest parts of VIS is that fact that there are dorms, unlike any other DDN board.
