Hey guys,
I have a problem that i get these pounding headaches at the back of my head about halfway through acro class. I take many types of dance, and this is the only class this happens in. I think it might have something to do with my back? I have a fairly flexible back and I use it alot in acro. I asked my doctor about this, and he just pretty much brushed it off and said to take advil. Does anyone know what might be causing these headaches, and what i can do to prevent them?

It is actually not that uncommon. Some skills cause different reactions in different people. I once had a friend who was always fine until she did backward rolls. After doing backward rolls she would always have a major head ache. It can also happen from a lot of handstands. Perhaps from a skill like headstands being done incorrectly.

The question is, is there a certain skill that seems to set off the head aches?

ive tried taking advile before class and ive tried taking it during class and it doesnt help at all. It seems when i start to do back bends or chest stands, basically something where i use alot of back flexibility i start to get the headaches. Its really weird and its always this class only!

I have a similar problem. From what I've always been told, when you start doing tricks that require a LOT of back and neck flexibility, we will hold our breath without even knowing it. Make a conscience effort to breathe DEEPLY in through your nose, out through your mouth. The headaches in acro are usually due to lack of oxygen getting to your brain from not breathing properly. (Your face will also start to get red.) Try that and see if it helps. It helps me. I'll still catch myself not breathing right when I'm teaching, and I have to force myself to think and do it... INNNN through the nose.... OUUUTTTT through the mouth.

Heyy
same here =(
I used to do gymnastics and when I was learning my backflips I got awful headaches and then I was sick but i tihnk thats because i landed on my head lmao!
when im dancing slow dance (disco board if you don't know)I do lots of back bends and I find I get a really bad headache when I come up from them. In a private lesson once my vision went blury only for a few seconds though.

the comment abvove sounds very true I dont think I breathe much when I do it and my face usually goes red! lol

Glad to know other people are like this, I was scared it would be something serious =)

Love Gee--x

This happened to me all the time and then I realized I wasn't breathing when ever I did a backbend or something. Once I started thinking about breathing, no more headaches! Yay!
