Does the vest need to have boning in it or can it be left out? Thanks.

Without the boning in the front of a jacket or vest, the front would crumple and make the garment look scruffy. The boning keeps the front looking neat. Boning is essential if the vest laced up the front, otherwise it would gather and 'bunch' up.

I'm pretty sure the scot dance or SOBHD websites should have the costume requirements.

With a kilt, how far around to the front should the pleats go? Should they stop at the hips? I'm having my daughter's kilt taken in as it is too big in the waist now and I want to make sure it is done correctly. If there are darts put in, but are hidden by the vest would that be acceptable?

Would a dancer be disqualified for wearing earrings?

Hi,
Thank-you for clarification regarding permitted dress. It explains why there are so many variations.
Also, are there any rules regarding the length of the jig and Aboyne skirts? When is it too short and are marks taken off if the outfit is not as it should be?
Thank-you

Do the kilts have to be made of 100% wool? I ask because I've reciently seen some kilts at a store made of a wool blend. They were much, much cheaper.

My daughter is 6 and has just started competing in her hornpipe, we bought a second hand outfit because one happened to pop up in her size at the right time.
At this age, is it okay to have an anchor on her collar? Like on the square collar at the back? I've defo seen some with an anchor in each corner of the collar before, but now that I'm looking for it I can't find any.

Can anyone tel me if it is mandatory for pre-premier dancers (e.g. beginners) to wear a jacket/waistcoat. Can they just wear a white highland blouse and kilt only?
