Ive ALWAYS wanted to be a cheerleader for as long as ive known, but one thing bothering me is what you need to be one.

Do you have to have done gymnastics before to be in a team?
Do you have to be be able to flip and do back handsprings?

Im about 20 cm away from the full scissor splits
And ive been doing modern dance for about 1 year, altough i have previous jazz experience of 2 years.
Is his enough to make a team?
Or do i need to have done gymnastics?

Some schools require gymnastics and previous cheer expirence. Some say they dont and then they do. I never made it in cheerleading in highschool. I had done gymnastics in the past did not have a backhandspring almost but didn't. Was very flexiable and fit and they would not take me. I was friends with the cheerleaders and all but it wasn't enough. I tried out in college where you didn't need any expirence, dance or cheer would be nice it said and I had a blast. We did stunting and everythig.

You sound like you really want to do it. You sound fit enough to, I would talk to the coaches or other cheerleaders from the past and see what they say is a requirement. They may need a back or front handspring. They may not. I would work on jumps and endurance before trying out. Strength training to. Dont be discouraged either. I re learned my front handspring at 20, so as long as you want it bad enough you can do it.

It depends on your high school and thier requirements if its possible take to the coach or some of the girls on the team and find out what they require you to have to make the team. i go to small school and there were no real experience requirements at all except to at least have a cartwhell and have a haert for the sport (we had 4 girls for our first competion and won 1st place and grand champion and we had only 3 for the second and we won 1st place for both our divisions) so it really depend on your school and what the coaches require
