Let's bring the Singapore posts back! =) en>fr fr>en

I was just looking around and I realised that it has been almost one and a half years the last reply was seen in many of the posts. Seems really dead to me. =S Why not we start to make this place active again!

Hmmm...just to start of, would like to know who actually orders from DDS? Its from US right? Isn't it expensive to do overseas delivery? 0.o

Heyos Lijun! Aww...you can never be too old for anything! Maybe you can check with them whether you can take RAD. It is really fun especially when you get to choose what design of leotard you want to wear when you are above grade 6! The dances are also very enjoyable! =D

Hello everyone.

I stopped at grade 6 before I could take the exams this year. Was too busy with school and currently working part-time too. Love ballet! Would like to try out hiphop or jazz.

Any 'lobangs'?

Which means you didn't get to take Grade 6 ballet exam this year? Oohh...that's really wasted. =X Any thoughts of getting back to ballet after schooling?

Ballet was too expensive for me to continue, so I had to quit. I was thinking of quitting after the exams. But I realise I have to burn a EVEN bigger hole for the exams. like, paying for uniforms, extra coaching lessons, exams fees etc. I was also relucant to spend for the exams because i was going through a very tough phase. Working, studying, dancing. was so physcially drained. decided to quit and make myself feel better and all.

feel like learning other dances. like hiphop or jazz. they are much more affordable, i think.

I can see that learning ballet has really been a big burden to you...Yeps...I'm sure hip hop and jazz aren't so expensive. At least you don't really need to buy uniform. =)

Hi all!

I'm new posting on the forums here. I did chinese dance for 8-9 years before hopping on the street wagon of jazz and hip hop and such at Dino Dance school (which closed down unfortunately) and stopped for a year or two.

trained in school under Miss Wee and Zaki for 2 years. Just graduated from MJC and waiting for uni to start.

I'm a Jitterbugs scholar now.

That's cool! You must have very good back muscles right! All Chinese Dances can do anything with their back! And tips on how to improve your back? I always thought jazz was fun! But I only got to learn ballet and hip hop! =)

hello all. well, chinese dance focuses a lot on flexibility of the back muscles but i'm long out of practice! its quite different from ballet which emphasizes on "leg work" - developpes, arabesques and such.

Dino dance school closed down 1 or 2 years ago already. Dino's in Malaysia teaching now. Its taken over by Patrick Loo who opened Danz People in its place.

Oh yea! I do agree on what you say about the development on muscles! Hmmm...But i do believe that those who learnt chinese dance can have very high arabesque! That will be really beautiful! =)

Hip hop is taught at a lot of places and almost everywhere!

you can just google hip hop class on google.com.sg to find. The more common studios are oschool, dance arts, studio wu and la dance connection. There are some CCs that teach as well.

sometimes one is too classically trained, that one may dance hiphop weirdly. because hiphop is like you have to let loose youself. but in ballet, everything must be pull up tightly.

jitterbugs, oschool, dance arts, studio wu, CCs and sports complexes do have hiphop dance lessons.

I do know what you mean! It was only because our ballet teacher wanted a performance end of year and she wanted all the different kind of dances such as salsa, mambo, contemporary, hip hop and some others. My class got to do hip hop and when the teacher taught us the first time, everyone was pointing their feet all the time! Its really funny though...although I felt really frustrated when others can do it so well while I couldn't. But of course I had fun and it was the first performance I ever had! =)

aswhy- Ooh! You were under Ms Wee and Zaki too! I was from SAJC, and i must say i do enjoy Ms Wee's technique classes! And Zaki's such a talented choreographer and a funny person too! ;)

I have been ordering stuff from DDS these days. I try not to buy anything locally anymore because it's so MUCH cheaper online!!! eg. Leather full soles for RAD exams costs $30+ locally, but when i order online, it costs only about $18 with shipping! I've been burning holes in my pocket splurging on leotards. Heh!

shardancer- I agree jazz and hip hop is cheaper! Perhaps it's just RAD that's more expensive eh. I'm gonna try out CSTD jazz at my studio!

I was exposed to genres like jazz, hip hop, chinese dance and more of modern during my time in JC. So if anyone would really like to try new genres of dance and are still in school, do consider joining dance as a CCA. I'm so glad i was in dance because it really widened my repertoire and experiences! But boy, do i like funny in hip hop...

Step Up 2 was great! I want to watch Step Up 1 too!

Me too! I haven't got to watch both step up though...ahh..I'm now too busy preparing for exams. Btw Stufu, isn't DDS from US? The prices look cheap by itself but when it includes postage wouldn't it be so much more expensive? Can you tell me more on how it works?

Yups. DDS if from USA. I use vpost because direct shipping from DDS is expensive. So that means i pay local shipping within USA to get it sent to my vpost address in USA, then vpost then sends it to me. Vpost shipping can get expensive sometimess though! I tried allaboutdance.com, but they are so inefficient! DDS stuff takes only about 2 1/2 weeks to reach me, but AAD takes a little more than a month!
