I remember Estelle Clewes (this would be in BC and AB around 15 years ago...) had a brown dress tartan and a brown jacket to go with it - was very pretty and unique. During the last couple years she danced, she had a blue version of the tartan made, I believe... wish I had a picture to show. I know she is on the cover of the SFU Highland CD... but I don't remember if she's wearing the brown or the blue.

Anybody remember what tartan she wore? Or better yet, have a picture??

Scrimgeour gold? (It's much brighter in person). I love this tartan, never seen it worn.

I am home today with sick kids. Here is a "Brown Family Photo" of several swatches on brown velvet-

They are Dress Blue Stewart(very heather-y and lovely), Christina Young Arisaide (no brown but beautiful with brown and gold), Burgundy McLean of Duart, Dress Scrimgeour(more gold than true brown), Dress Strathyre, and good old Thomson Khaki(more tan than brown).

Not to long ago, I had a piece of Brown Clan Tartan, and guess what? It's red and black!!

I really like the Thompson Khaki, but have yet to see anyone dance in it. It would be great for a male dancer, especially in a black prince charlie. My DS wears the Blue dress Thompson right now. Maybe next time...

Sammi's pic better shows the Scrimgeour's colors. I think it does have a small brownish-rustish stripe next to the gold, right? (Always thought it'd look lovely with a vest in that color)

There is also a navy and camel stewart which are quite pretty, I am also searching for dress camel stewart which I had a piece of a while back - a mix of camel, dark brown and a thin red stripe over a creamy background.

I am thinking about getting a new National made, and this thread has me seriously considering a brown tartan and brown vest. A nice, chocolate-y brown would be great.

So you guys got me stuck on brown tartans, and now I am having a hard time finding them (like finding a supplier that has them.) I especially love the dress MacKellar.

Anyone know of any place I could find a nice, chocolate brown tartan?

Punkqueenie - there are numerous tartans that have brown woven into the design. Your best to search through tartans until you find a few you like and contact a mill directly. A beautiful dancer from Quebec wore a chocolate brown long sleeve jacket with gold braid and I believe her tartan was Muted Blue Stewart.
The brown velvet played up the brown within her dress tartan and looked absolutely stunning on her!!

E-Bay and E-Bay UK have tartan material in wool blend & poly V
