We have our little ones lining up at the sides ready to do their skips down to the corner holding their skirts and i notice one little girl with her fingers in her ears so i went over:
me: "what's wrong, why have you got your fingers in your ears, all the girls are holding their skirts for skips"
her: "but Miss L. i dont like this music, it doesnt make me feel happy and i don't think its good enough for skipping" (it was Hi-5)
she is four and frequently tells the other girls when its time to pay attention because the teacher has told them to be quiet! Hahaha, definitely a classic to have in the class!

One day, years ago, at a beginners class one of the little kids asked how old I was, so I told them. Her response? "You can't be 21, you have to be married to be 21!"
Also I was fielding questions once at a dance out at an elementary school and one little girl asked me where my husband was. I told her I wasn't married, but she responded "But you're old!" I was only 23 at the time! It was all very innocent and we got a good laugh about it. Now every time I show up at that school the teachers tease me about my "husband" |

I imagine that either her DDN name IS her real life name. Or in order to be clear, but yet secretive (as some of us prevent using our first names), she used Kaydence for retelling the story. =) |

I asked a 8 yr old if she was feeling ok.. She was normally terrific at pique turns, and each time she pushe up and over to releve she'd "cringe" or something and get thrown off her center. She said with a huge irritated sigh-- "Im sorry I just cant stop farting" |

While backstage at the recital this year, I was standing with my 4 year old class- they were on next. One of the lyrics to the song that the kids who were onstage performing was "believe I'm #1". So I looked at the girls and said "Who's #1?" and one of the little ones looked at me and raised her hand and yelled "MEEEE" then I looked at the rest of the girls- I expected them all to say they were... and asked the girl behind her "susie are you #1?" and she looked at me very serious and said NO! I said "You aren't, how come?" She smiled at me and started giggling and said "Miss Jen, I'm #2!" SOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!
What I forgot was that in class for the last few weeks of class I gave the girls numbers so they could remember how they lined up to go onstae...I'm not sure that those were the correct #s for the girls, but she was #2 in line at the time...haha!! |

Last night I had a tap class dancing to "Get Up On Ya Feet" off the Kim Possible Soundtrack. At one point in the song they say "yippee yi yo", so I asked if they knew who said that. I was looking for cowboys (because we were circling our hand over our head like a lasso). So I gave them a hint... they have hats and ride on horses. One little boy pipes up... Michigan People? LOL! This is hilarious because we're from Ohio and given that whole OSU Michigan rivalry... yeah. |

We have a thing in our studio where if you say can't you have to pay 50 cents. Well I told one of my students that she can't do that because it will hurt her and she told me I had to pay 50 dollars because I was a teacher!
I also had one tell me she was wearing cinderella underwear.
I love kids they say the darnest things!! |

One of my 4 year olds gets out of class and is watching the class across the hall very intently. I walk over and realize the top competition group at our studio is rehearsing their number a week or so before competition, so of course it looks amazing. So I'm talking to some of my parents, and the little girls turns around and says...
"We are so much better than them"
hehe, i love kids =) |

One of my 5-year olds has a little 3-year old brother named Sam. One day, when we were stretching she said, "Miss Shelley, yesterday Sam called me a douche-bag."

How about what they do? I had one start poking my butt during class. I kept looking back at her and asking her what she was doing and she just kept smiling and poking me. Good thing it was time to sit down and stretch. I also had a little boy pull his pants down just as I was kneeling down to talk to him. It sure is never boring at the studio. |

For one of the ballet classes I assist (Ages 6-8)-
It's the 2nd time the kids are running their recital dance that day-
The main teacher: Take Two
Kid one: Take 88!
Kid two: Take a billion!
Kid three: Take POTATOES!
Also the same class, their song was "A Whole New World" from Aladdin...
Teacher: "Right from the beginning of the dance pretend your flying on the magic carpet with your prince, be happy & smile your going to a whole new world"
Kid one: Only money makes me happy
Kid two: Can we do a money dance?
Me: "No. You don't need money in your new world, your a princess you get everything for free!"
Kid One: Can it be a carpet made out of money?
And for some reason this class begs me to do push ups during the warm-up...go figure |

I find that I learn more about parents and families than most parents and families would like. A few of my favorites:
*Little student about 5 years old asked me how old I was. I said 26. Some of the girls in the class commented on how their mommies were as old as me. One little girl looked at us all and exclaimed wow, my mom is super old. Shes like a grandma...shes 33.
* I had a little girl come into class very worried about something, so I asked her if everything was ok. She looked at me with huge eyes and told me she was worried about her dog. I was a little confused until she explained that she didnt know where her dog would be staying since mommy said daddy was in the doghouse.
*In the middle of the lobby with a bunch of parents around one little girl told her mother that I had told the class I was pregnant...she then paused and told me that her mom and dad made a huge mistake and that mom would be having a new baby too.
Kids never fail to surprise me. |

I love the things that come out of kids' mouths- so honest and uncensored lol!
I graduated from college last year with a degree in psychology and am currently in grad school for psychology as well and since I've been at the studio that I'm teaching at since I was 4, all of the students pretty much know me.
During one ballet class last year, I was constantly telling my girls to ask me questions if they didn't know the steps because I can't read minds (it was clear they had questions but weren't asking). So this one girls (about 11) stops and says "Um, isn't that what you are going to school for?" I had to laugh so hard because it was too cute. I told her that I was going to school to learn how to help people deal with problems that go on in their mind but that they had to tell me what was going on before I could do that and she responds with, "That's cheating!". Too cute. |

haha... I am so glad I was able to find this.
Today, I assisted at an intensive at my old studio. I was working with the younger girls (6-8) and they started comparing underwear... haha. They were like Miss Alix, what underwear do you have on. hahaha. I was like um well they are blue... and they wanted me to show them. I was like no I am too old to show you. And they told me I was right and I am too old (I am 18). HAHA. Made my day.
Just thought I would share.

So the other day i was assisting a preschool class and this little girl says "i took a shower with my daddy, he has a very big dinger!" as she pointed to "that area." Haha!! That was intersting. A while ago i had a 3 year old girl that said "Do you have boobies? Are those your boobies? My mommy has boobies, they are very big." That girl was wild. Ahhhh!!! But it was funny!! |

At the end of my beggining dance classes I let my kids tell/ show me something. One day one of my 5 year olds tell me: "Miss Steviee!!!! I saw my mommy hit my daddy! Daddy got really mad and tried to hit her to but she's to fast!" I almost died, quite embarrassed. Somethings I just don't wanna know.
Another little girl came up to me another time and said " teacher guess what! I pooped my roos today!"
Keeps me entertained for sure! |

During the Nutcracker, right before she went on stage a little girl about 6 years old asked me if I had ever seen a cow p*nis? After a few questions I found out that she had been watching Survivor the night before and that's what they were eating. Ewwww. I will NEVER forget this girl! (I put the asterisk in the word, because although anatomically correct, I wasn't sure if site would allow it). |
