Sure you can say that Hip Hop is about embracing your own style through dance. But its also about embracing the culture. Understanding the elements of Hip Hop and how they came to be. Learning its roots and how the 50s, 60s, 70's era had a great impact on the youth that formed the movement. You can't call yourself Hip Hop if you don't know who Afrika Bambatta, James Brown, Rock Steady crew, Kool Herc (etc) is.

Its an unfortunate era that a lot of us youngsters missed. So its important that we learn our history and embrace the forward movement of this culture the right way. But most importantly be yourself; don't fall into the role of looking the part. It's a life style, a way of life.

Peace.
