Spoiler warning!
So, I'm really glad to see that Chris is gone. The boyfriend and I really didn't like him. But WHY is Comfort still there?! She's been my least favorite since the show started and she deserved to go home tonight. I thought Chelsea was amazing. I can't believe she went home. Ugh.

I agree! Why Chelsea? Why not Kourtney? Hasn't she been in the bottom each time? I too am not surprised that Chris went home. I loved the break performance, that was entertainment.

Kourtney and Matt were not in the bottom 3 the week they did the fox trot. Also, because of their height, I keep wondering who they will partner Matt with if Kourtney goes home. I honestly feel like Comfort should have gone home. I haven't seen her give a decent performance yet (jive, krump and jazz). I think her and Chris were in the bottom 3 every week. I am sad to see Chelsea go. I think her and Thane have had it rough the last 2 weeks. Poor Chris, he's a decent dancer and he seems like the nicest guy ever. He just never seemed right for this show to me. Even more, I'd like to see the quick step go.

I think the ones staying are the ones that have gotten the best choreography. The bottom threes all had poor choreography in my opinion, which makes it kind of an unfair competition.

I am so sad about Chelsea. I didn't want to see her go. I'm not so sad about Chris. He's a good enough dancer, just not at the level as some of those other guys so I think it was his time! I'll miss seeing both of them dance though!

Kourtney should have definately gone home over Chelsea....Kourtney doesn't have the passion in her that Chelsea does...they both have great technique, but....I would watch Chelsea dance over Kourtney anyday.....they DID make the right decision about Chris....I think Thane will be the next guy to leave.

I agree with the poor choreography comment. I hate to say it (and believe me, I'm not trying to be a vicious person), but those two that have been doing the bulk of the jazz (Napoleon and Tabatha?), I really haven't liked ANY of their pieces. None of them have been particularly jazzy and none of them really showcase what these wonderful dancers can do. There's always a lot of acting and running around, but they never do a lot of dancing. I wish they'd bring in some other choreographers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Napoleon and Tabatha are labeling their work as "hip hop". In the end, it's just a label and what really matters is whether the work succeeds at its goals. I've liked the majority of the stuff they've done (on the show)... some better than others.
|
|
|
|
Yeah, well I don't like their "hip hop". I swear they make every costume complete with a fedora and the routines always have the dancers grabbing their crotches. But there's nothing particularly hip hop about anything they've done. Whoever it is that's been doing the bulk of the jazz is the other choreographer I don't like. Who was it that did "Beautiful People"? Eh.....I really didn't like it.

Chelsea was robbed! Comfort or Kortney should've gone. I'm not impressed with either one of them. Hopefully the show will get better when it is whittled down to the top ten.
I have to say that I've really enjoyed the hip hop pieces with the exception of the Krump number. The jail break piece was very entertaining. It wasn't all hard hitting and it was amusing. I loved how it ended with them jumping off into the audience and then popping their heads back up. The Bleeding Love piece inmho was very inspired and performed at a high level.
I would like to see jazz pieces choreographed by other choreographers. Mandy Moore so far hasn't done it for me. I'm still scratching my head over her royal piece from last week.

Snot it was actually Tyce Diorio who did Beautiful People. I am sorry you didn't like it. As always he did his best and tried to give Chris something meaty to really attack in the hopes he would not be eliminated.
Though I understand that the dancers and choreographers have to accept that when they volunteer to be on this show there will be all sorts of negative things written about them on the internet, it would be great if on THIS and all dance boards, where dancers and teachers congregate, we put ourselves in their shoes for one moment. Lets leave the negativity to boards like FOX TV and Television Without Pity. Lets show solidarity with our fellow dancers, choreographers and teachers and support them, vs. judging them so harshly. Imagine it was YOUR student up there, or one of the teachers in YOUR studio.
They are working incredibly hard doing the best they can. You are not going to like every piece or every music choice. Just know they are trying their best , even if its not up to your personal standards.
The amount of stress they are under is immeasurable. The choreographers are under the gun to try and not have their couple eliminated. They feel absolutely awful when Nigel decides their couple is the target of the week and rips them to shreds, regardless of what they did.
Also keep in mind that this is reality TV. Please do not buy into it 100%.....take it all with a grain of salt.
And incidentally, Comfort is the only female hip hopper. She will go far, as will Chelsea Hightower, the only ballroom dancer left.

But this is a DANCE board where I can give my opinion on dance related things. And like I said, I'm not trying to be a mean person, but I've been less than thrilled with every jazz piece and almost every hip hop with the exception of the "No Air" routine and maybe the "Bleeding Love" piece. When did having an opinion mean that I wasn't "sticking together" with or supporting my fellow dancers and choreographers?

I totally know what Bisou is talking about. I think we have all felt pressure to choreograph something fabulous whether it is for a sidewalk dance fest or an entire ballet. It is sooo disappointing when people don't receive a piece of choreography the way it was intended. I certainly put my blood sweat and tears into my choreo and it makes me want to jump off a cliff when others watch and say, "so?"
I have my opinions and am entitled to express them as it is a free country. But there is a place very near and dear to my heart where I can empathize what these people (choreographers) must go through. It's not like a sport, this is art! And yet it gets judged so harshly!
I couldn't imagine having a dancer's fate in my hands on top of everything else. I still feel that a truly wonderful dancer could make anything work, period. I would watch Nureyev pick his nose and say, "ooohhh, he digs for gold so artistically." I haven't been smitten with a single dancer this year. Is it coincidence the choreo isn't doing it for me? Probably not.

I'm not trying to knock the choreography, I just don't think dancers should be judged based on their choreography. We all like dances that obviously are well choreographed, but I would think judges should look beyond that and look at the dancer, how they took the choreography and made it their own. I completely understand what the choreographers go through. How many times have you choreographed a piece, were thrilled about it from what you saw in your head (12 amazing cloned dancers) then put it on students and was like "What?" Oh, I've been there.

^But isn't that why the dancers "dance for their lives?"^
Who choreographs that?
I understand the bummer of winding up in the bottom but your individual performance has something to do with going home.

I think to an extent. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the overall performance from the night before still has an impact on their decisions, because I found Chelsea's solo to be better than others she competed against and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Want to know what I think? I think Nigel knows exactly from week to week who he wants to go home and manipulates it to work that way. Next on the chopping block will probably be Thayne and Kourtney or Jessica

In regards to who got sent home... One of my friends is on the show right now and he's pretty sure they are trying to keep a "well rounded" group for the tour (top 10). I don't think Comfort will last much longer than that.

I am glad there is a dance show that we can be passionate about, whether we love it or hate it. I don't get much of an opportunity to travel, so this is a wonderful opportunity for me to see what is going on out in the dance world, and keep myself current and inspired!
I hope that this show is inspiring young dancers to dance, and they are registered before August! I feel like this is going to be a good year for gymnastics once the Olympics start!

I knew Chelsea was done when they got the quick step. Yes, the choreography wasn't great, but they were just TERRIBLE. Awful. I think they didn't send Kourtney home because that would have been sending home the first dance of the new mohawk lady. I dislike Mia, personality wise, but I prefer her choreography.
As far as the show, they were FARRRR too easy on Kherrington. She was lame in the opening #, I was really bored. YES, the "Bleeding Love" piece was just like the "No Air" piece, but standing on it's own I still liked it. I like Chelsea H, but apples to apples, Katee danced her under the table in similar dances (No Air vs. Bleeding Love). Joshua and Katee were AMAZING in the Samba. Amazing. They've been given three styles and killed it in all three, with Marc and Chelsea not far behind, IMO. The Chelsea that went home had it coming, and I don't think Kourtney and Comfort are too far behind.

I love Josh and Katee. Josh is by far my favorite guy and now that Chelsea's gone, I guess I'm pulling for Katee and Jessica.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments and opinions. I have watched the show since season one, and have always loved it and waited for it to come on. Like others have mentioned, this season isn't quite as good for some reason. I'm not quite sure why I feel that way. Maybe I am used to the choreographers' styles so the dances don't seem as new and fresh? I also don't have a favorite dancer yet, like I have in the past. The show is still entertaining me though. It is one of the few shows my husband and I can enjoy together.
Nigel does seem to manage to manipulate who is sent home. It seems more obvious this season than in the past. Also the judge's comments are annoying me more than they have in the past. They all seem to be trying to be entertaining and cute. Well at least, Nigel and Mary.
Oh well, in the end it is just a TV show and it keeps me entertained for an hour.

^Good point Oz^
When I see my fave dance company perform a few times in a year I get "used" to it and it doesn't feel as fresh and exciting as the first time. How easily that could happen on a television show into it's 4th season! I remember being really blown away the first two years with the eclectic style of Wade. Now I'm a lot more numb to it.
Humph.
