Oh boy, I guess the honeymoon is over! Well, for good or for bad, in sickness and in health, I'll keep watching like the faithful viewer that I am. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By DaDancingPsych Comments: 832, member since Wed Dec 18, 2002On Sun Jun 29, 2008 01:22 PM
I hope that none of my comments have been hurtful to anyone... I make a real effort in this thread (as well as any thread) to post in a manner that is supportive. It's been proven that someone near and dear to the show could be reading and no one wants to read hurtful comments. However, I also want to be honest... in the same fashion that I would be honest with my own students, colleagues, or even myself.
Dancers and choreographers have bad weeks and obviously the circumstances of this show are not perfect. Just because someone did not perform or choreograph to my pleasing one week does not mean that I think that person is a poor dancer. Quite the opposite, I think many talented dancers are voted off early on before we get to see all that they have to offer. And there are some choreographers who I like better than others, but in the end, I think they all very talented.
So, I guess I don't want to see us censor our comments and not be allowed to express our true feelings. However, maybe we should keep it to the constructive criticism that would allow anyone reading to grow and learn. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By LovelyRita Comments: 1484, member since Tue Nov 19, 2002On Sun Jun 29, 2008 07:07 PM
I don't know...I think really the talent could be better. I do think all of the Jazz's have been boring because the dancers are not OWNING the stage.
So maybe I don't mean better talent, but better performance qualities. Bigger and more full of "dancing for the back of the theatre" quality.
Do I think Mandy Moore could come out of the '80's? Yes, but I know the pressure I feel for an elementary school recital to be a creative genius and cannot compare the pressure there at all. I bow to the choreographers on that show. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By missgolightly Comments: 1183, member since Thu Feb 09, 2006On Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:06 AM
I think that Mandy Moore's pieces have not been successful because for some reason they have not been danced "edgy" enough. Whether it is because they are not edgy dancers, Mandy is not communicating that, or the choreography is so complicated they haven't had enough rehearsal time to make it what it needs to be.
Same with Beautiful People. It wasn't "raw" enough. The choreography opened the possibility of some edginess, but the dancers were pretty "vanilla". | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By happydancin Comments: 847, member since Tue Nov 22, 2005On Mon Jun 30, 2008 09:05 AM
IMO... Choreographing for SYTYCD is a dream job for choreographers & they are the NBA, NFL super-pro of all choreographers in this country. They are getting paid the big bucks & therefore it is their job to crank out creative, fabulous material that will entertain the masses & highlight the dancers best assets. I do not feel like I am picking or being mean if I feel they fell short...if the choreography & dancers are boring us then that is not good. The average person is going to flip the channel & we are going to lose our beloved SYTYCD if it is not entertaining. I love this show & I want to be WOWED by the choreography & dancing. I feel like most of the dancers are very talented this year & some of the choreographers are not always stepping up to the plate & highlighting the dancers. Sometimes I feel like they are trying to out-weird each other with “creative, different” stories. I agree with one of the other posters…stories are fine, but I would like to see a great jazz number…no story…just great dancing. I am not crazy about ballroom, but when it is well choreographed & the music is good…I really enjoy it! I hope through the next few weeks that the choreographers & dancers really bring it…it is a great show! | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By DancingDiva736 Comments: 660, member since Wed Oct 17, 2007On Tue Jul 01, 2008 07:10 AM
Okay, I haven't checked this post in a few days and have to say, I agree with DaDancingPsych that we shouldn't have to censor our comments or opinions. This is the reason why we are all on this site-to share our ideas and opinions with others. I am not one to jump out and hurt someone elses feelings, and I definately wouldn't come on here and do it on purpose, however we are each entitled to our own opinion. I think that each and every one of the dancers on the show are incredibly talented amazing dancers, and the choreographers wouldn't be where they are at today if they weren't equally amazing-BUT-that doesn't mean that we all have to like everything that do. The people expressing their thoughts on the choreography and the dancing in this board have a right to say what they think. Just because they aren't sugar coating how they feel doesn't mean that they are being rude. It might be a little forward, but if that is how they see it then thats fine. I don't think that we should have to censor our feelings or thoughts on the show whatsoever. Everyone knows that when you put yourself out there, people are going to talk. You think those choreographers care about whether we like their work-probably not because odds are my opinions of their dances will never matter. I just think that we should be able to say whatever we feel about it, whether we like or dislike it, and not have to worry. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By ifdancecouldkill Comments: 145, member since Tue Apr 22, 2008On Tue Jul 01, 2008 07:42 AM
I think the choreographers are trying too hard on the "ideas" of their dances. I hope they get a reality check soon and just go back to the way they have choreographed in the previous seasons
We've all been there, though. Pressured to crank out an even better show/routine. Sometimes the performance does not necessarily project the dance that started in our imagination.
These choreographers are not idiots or they would not have been hired in the first place. Hopefully they mellow out and just choreograph dance and not some wild, dreamed up idea.
By the way...... WHERE IS SHANE SPARKS???? I miss him on this show. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By LovelyRita Comments: 1484, member since Tue Nov 19, 2002On Tue Jul 01, 2008 08:24 AM
Shane is judging "amercas best dance crew" on MTV and is the only SOUND mind on the panel!
I can't stand hearing JC Chasez and Lil Mama critique. Its absolutely abnoxious.
Shane choreographed the opening hip hop number two weeks back but I miss his choreo and judging too. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By ifdancecouldkill Comments: 145, member since Tue Apr 22, 2008On Tue Jul 01, 2008 09:05 AM
yeah, I knew he was on ABDC and I totally agree with Little Mama's critiqueing being bad. I also was getting frustrated with the show because they kept saying they wanted a variety in dance groups but would put down Sass X 7 for being to "cheerleader/dance teamy" It's different from the other groups so why were they (JC and Little Mamma) making such a big deal out of it.
I love Shane and just wish he would do more with SYTYCD. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By JerseyBallerina1 Comments: 149, member since Thu Nov 09, 2006On Tue Jul 01, 2008 02:05 PM
All in All, Mary, Nigel and the guest judges have been saying this is the best season yet when it comes to the talent, I don't see it!!!! AT ALL. I am so disappointed b/c there seems to be noone who stands out to me! I am still a faithful viewer but fear that there may not be a long bright future for SYTYCD. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By dancinfootball Comments: 259, member since Thu Apr 20, 2006On Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:19 PM
ARG!!!! It was storming here so I missed Twitch and Kerrington's 1st number and Mark and Chelsea's 1st number. I love both couples. Who cares if we are about to be carried away by a tornado, I need my SYTYCD!! | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By tapisrhythm5678 Comments: 340, member since Wed Jul 28, 2004On Wed Jul 02, 2008 11:04 PM
Wow! Mia's bed piece was amazing! The rose petals, story line/concept (although i'm not that into stories), and the emotion! My 2nd favorite of all 4 seasons! My other favorite was the piece performed to "Why" from season 2; so much feeling, emotion, and performance.
After the performances tonight it will be very interesting to see who goes home tomorrow.
Did anyone else think the second duets were better than the first? | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By DanceWith8Count Comments: 152, member since Wed Oct 03, 2007On Thu Jul 03, 2008 04:58 AM
Mia's piece was.... WOW!
Did you notice that they never touched eachother? it just felt like they did- crazy-
i loved kourtney at auditions- now i really don't like her- i dont know why- something wierd.
Katee and josh
Kherrington Twitch
Chelsea and Mark

I'm sorry, but I've never laughed harder at one of Mia's pieces than the bed one. That's all I'm gonna say. And was anyone else feeling a little awkward during the Mandy Moore piece for Jessica and Will? It was a little steamy! Haha. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By Kris31 Comments: 113, member since Mon Dec 03, 2007On Thu Jul 03, 2008 07:27 AM
I felt like all of the numbers last night were so sexual. My teenage daughter and I watch every week and I was beginning to feel uncomfortable last night. Did any one else notice that? I understand the "story" thing and sometimes the numbers need to be steamy, but it was getting kind of ridiculous! Is that what the producers told the choreographers to do to get more viewers?? | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By Kris31 Comments: 113, member since Mon Dec 03, 2007On Thu Jul 03, 2008 07:29 AM
BTW, I think it's time for Jessica to go. She keeps getting the pity criticism from the judges. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By ifdancecouldkill Comments: 145, member since Tue Apr 22, 2008On Thu Jul 03, 2008 07:41 AM
They really stepped up last night! There were a few numbers that I loved the dancers and even more that I loved the choreography!
Dark haired courtney did AWESOME at her hip hop!! made me want to get up and dance!!
Like everyone else, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Mia's bed piece.
I also really liked Jessica & Will's Heart number. It might be because I like the song but I think they did really well.
Kourtney Lindt was one of my favorite in the beginning, not so much anymore. She looks so uncomfortable all the time. I don't get it.
I was NOT crazy about the West Coast swing number.
Can't wait to see the group dance tonight! | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By LovelyRita Comments: 1484, member since Tue Nov 19, 2002On Thu Jul 03, 2008 08:05 AM
I didn't like the west coast swing number either. I don't think they pulled it off. IMO the judges don't want to see katie and mark go so they gave them a good critique.
I always enjoy when the judges get snappy with an ignorant audience! | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By DaDancingPsych Comments: 832, member since Wed Dec 18, 2002On Thu Jul 03, 2008 09:01 AM
The WCS (West Coast Swing) number was weak. One of the things I love about the dance is the connection between partners and the way the follow (woman) moves through her slot (toward and away from the guy). I just thought that it missed that connection. Lots of cutesy things, but did not blow me away.
Chelsea Hightower is officially my favorite. I was really impressed with the jazz number and the leaps/kicks that she was doing. Ballroom dancers (from my experience) don't "jump" much. I think she is the most versatile dancer at this point.
The bed dance... hit or miss for me. It was performed well, but I was wowed by the idea. I preferred the other Mia piece with the slow walk and the craziness afterwards. Katee and Josh danced this one?!?
There was a salsa or mambo number, too... right? I wanted to see more with the hips. I don't even recall who danced this, but I remember thinking that this was the couple to go.
There were so many dances, that I can't remember any to comment on! =P | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By faerydust00 Comments: 614, member since Wed Apr 18, 2007On Thu Jul 03, 2008 09:09 AM
I, too, loved the bed piece, and the Heart piece. I also liked Twitch and Kherington's Paso.
I agree that the WC Swing number was not great...I kept waiting for the judges to be critical of it, and I was disappointed when they weren't. I think that Josh and Katee just weren't as good in that dance as they have been.
And in MHO this season is not the most talented...some of them are really talented, but on the whole, I can't say that this is the best season...
Also, I just watched the results show from last week and I LOVED LOVED LOVED Qwest's piece! (I thought it was better than Mia's opener) | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By Tapmama2 Comments: 770, member since Sun Mar 19, 2006On Thu Jul 03, 2008 09:25 AM
I loved last night's show!! My favorite pieces were both of Mia's pieces and Mandy's "Heart" piece with Will and Jessica (those lifts were amazing and Will is a beautiful man!). I thought Josh and Katee did an okay job with the West Coast Swing, but didn't really pull it off. They'll be safe because they are amazing and did an awesome job with Mia's choreo. Here's my prediction for the bottom three...
Comfort and Thayne

Wow, I found myself entertained as well! Perhaps the dancers are becoming more comfortable?
Standout moments:
Kiss Kiss Many Moore piece. Chelsea killed it. I am a fan.
Will's hot body and hot first sissone.
Mia's first piece. I really enjoyed the tension-filled walks. How many times have we tried to explain that kind of feeling to our students-a lot happening-yet very little?
Andy Blankenbuelher on SYTYCD! Anyone take his classes at BDC? That said, have you ever heard "Cool" and thought romantic duet?I felt very stuck in the original story of the song, unfortunately. What's next, a waltz to Jellicle Cats?
Twitch and Kherington's over the top pase doble. The costumes! The faces! The cape! Very silly. I get what Mia was getting at in her comment about Kherington's smile-she is cream cheese no matter what, I'm sorry.
The judge's commentary was extra frustrating last night Especially who was and wasn't committed. (You were emotional. I didn't believe YOU were emotional enough. That seemed fake. I believed it!) If I were a dancer this season I would be really pissed at the randomness of the judging. All of this guessing at feeling! And it is playing out exactly as we predicted on this thread! Grr!
Will's hot body.
Can we take a sec and discuss Cat Cora's outfit? I missed the first seven minutes...was it ever explained? Depending on the camera shots I kept expecting her to be wearing a granny-cut tuxedo leotard top, you know, the kind we order for our kids from Weissmans with matching skirt or pants? Not only that she is about 6 pounds soaking wet and yet looked somewhat pregnant?! Thank goodness she is a gorgeous woman and could wear a paper bag (or a beige bush-last season's finale anyone?)and look great. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By val21gal Comments: 753, member since Sun Jul 31, 2005On Thu Jul 03, 2008 10:55 AM
Yes, last night seemed much better. There were a few that stole my heart, both of mia's specifically josh and katee, (i was in tears) while my boyfriend cried in the bed piece, (interesting). love the kerrington and twitch. unforuntunately i was not a big fan of the kiss kiss piece, i don't know maybe i missed something, i should watch it again. i was bored and it seemed kinda easy? seems you all liked it though guess i will have to take a second look.
judges do seem a little random. i am not a huge fan of jessica but i really feel that it wouldn't matter who was dancing with will they would make a point of saying how he outdanced her and she can't keep up. i feel really bad for jessica. even when i know she has to be giving it her all, someone beats her up about not dancing at will's level. leave her alone, poor girl.
just my two cents! can't wait for tonight! | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By Malalyna Comments: 121, member since Fri Nov 30, 2001On Thu Jul 03, 2008 01:05 PM

I have to agree with whoever made the comment about the number to the Heart song being boarderline too steamy. I watch this show with my 4 year old. While they were performing, she looked at me and said, "Is that her husband?" Um.... when a 4 year old that doesn't know what sex is knows that they're simulating sex... it may be a little too much. Granted, she didn't say, "are they acting like they're having sex?" But the question pretty much had the same meaning.
I know... I'll probably get comments in opposition, but this is a prime time show that you would think the whole family could watch. My 4 year old has never had problems with the samba or rhumba or any of the other sensual dances, but THAT particular piece sparked the question.
Don't get me wrong... I thoroughly enjoyed the piece, and don't mind the inuendos normally seen in the choreography on the show, but I question whether that particular choreography was entirely appropriate. | re: SYTYCD Results?!?!? en>fr fr>en By DaDancingPsych Comments: 832, member since Wed Dec 18, 2002On Thu Jul 03, 2008 02:07 PM

No, they didn't discuss it (unless I missed something.) I thought she looked somewhat twenties inspired. Then again, I watched "The Cotton Club" yesterday. |
