Are the movies in the USA being made by Religious fanatics? They may belong to a goody goody religion but write the most immoral and corrupt movies and bllodthirsty ones too. They also encourage bad English and use words the wrong way such as ...cool,hot,way,go....I will make a longer list later. The younger generation is growing up not being able to speak properly. 46 Replies to Religion and movies |

You're not exactly the right person to be telling us we're not speaking correctly.

This is very, very, very, very ironic.
I have nothing more to say. |

Who shot who in the what now? What are these films of which you speak?
I know most Hollywood films have Scientologists somewhere in the creative process, so I might just be able to sympathise with you. Or not, I'm not sure yet.

For the record, I grew up watching Hollywood movies and hearing all sorts of 1980s slang. It certainly hasn't hindered my ability to communicate either accurately or expressively. Look for a better target, please.
Now, aside from the delicious irony of Rotti preaching on the correct use of language, just what part of this made sense? The films are being made by religious fanatics, therefore they contain practically everything a religious fanatic would stand against? |

Well, people pay to go see a bit of escapism, and there are a few films with cautionary tales that come close rivals to Reefer Madness as far as ridiculousness.
Then again, the Indie film scene is awash with some bad grammar too... and if I go and watch Diarios de Motocicleta, La Dolce Vita, Koroshiya Ichi or Y Tu Mamá También I am met with what can only be called, NOT ENGLISH AT ALL!
There is not only mainstream cinema out there to wash your little brains with.

Kids these days can't speak properly because their parents are either idiots or don't take the time to teach them...and schools don't seem to be teaching them much either. I have a couple of friends who are teachers and some of the stuff their kids turn in is just astounding. |

movies try to mimic the current times. They do not encourage it but become a fantasy land, or a dark time, anything we want to believe. Movies are for entertainment and education, you can always learn something from a movie, for me they provide wonderful inspiration for songs, art, and dance. |

I somewhat agree with Elfie. While a rotti post IS always good for a chuckle, it's getting boring.
As for the original topic at hand, I have no idea what you're talking about rotti, once again. Why don't you identify the so-called "religious fanatics" to whom you are referring?
And I hope I'm not the only one taken aback by the irony that a post was deleted for being irrelevant to the conversation. |

The only thing that determines if Hollywood makes a movie it if it will make money.
If Hollywood produced it it's because they determined that there is a big enough market to make a profit on it. |

Are the movies in the USA being made by Religious fanatics?
I doubt it. It that were the case, we wouldn't have sex and violence in our movies.
...encourage bad English and use words the wrong way such as ...cool,hot,way,go.... actually, those words are "slang." Every culture has slang. Rotti's in Australia, correct? Australia probably has slang words that would sound strange to us Americans. Just like the British have words we don't understand, and Americans have words that others don't understand. I don't necessarily think that all movies should contain the King's English in it's entirety. Most people would probably find it boring. Not many people are wordsmiths either.
Movies are geared towards a particular audience. I watched a movie recently that contained more references to a particular swear word (426 isntances of that one word alone). I don't care for excessive curse words in movies, but I know it doesn't bother some people. The same goes for horror movies, or violent movies.
These types of movies are NOT limited to America only... |

Wow I felt sad about that video. Poor dog with an arrow through its head, and cat being attacked by a dog. Thats not really being owned.
Anyway, cant respond to nonsense very well, so other than the video theres not much to discuss.

Well, this movie is made in the US (the director is American and the British accents are obviously fake), and it's full of profanity.
www.youtube.com . . .
On a more serious note, when it comes to foul words in other languages, don't even get me started on the stuff I heard when I was in Spain last year... |

I hope answer stays for a while or is it starfarming?Anyway, lets look at Indi Jones. He walks around with a little boy.Where did he find that boy?Why does he not take the boy home? Then he laughs as that poor man is about to be hit by an aeroplane.he is very cruel. Then he is a coward. He gave his book to Adolf Hitler to autograph. If he was really such a great man,he should have pilled out his gun and shot Hitler.....Then there is Mr and Mrs Smith. They try to kill one another and shoot thousands of bullets into their house. What sort of example is that?..Then there are movies such as "knocked up" that is very rude..Another is Sex in the City...My grandmother or great grandmother would not have even seen a newspaper headline with the word SEX in it..that is enough for now .I will try to think of more later. |
