NO SUNDAY COMPETING en>fr fr>en

I am trying to find competitions that don't do Sundays. We don't want to do Sundays for religious beliefs. Our family keeps the Sabbath Day holy and only spends time that day strengthening our relationships with the Lord and with each other and it is something that has been a great blessing and that we take seriously. I want my students to compete if possible but I have a hard time finding competitions that do not include a Sunday. Sometimes I request no Sundays but we often get scheduled on Sunday anyway. If you have any leads please help........
Thanks so much!

Most Convention/Competitions host their competitions on Saturday evening or even Friday evening. The only bad thing is that the convention runs on Sunday and it is required to be registered for the entire convention in order to participate in the competition. Maybe your students can attend the convention and you do not have to. But you will be able to go to the Competition on the Saturday or Friday. If you need any more information feel free to PM me.

I don't know of any off hand but sometimes it depends on the size of the competition and how many are registerred as to whether they need one or two days. I've been to competitions that were so small that they only needed saturday to get all of the routines in. The bad part is that there is no way to determine when you will be scheduled for-it doesn't really matter when you request because they are going to put you in at the time when the other students in that category and level are going.
I definately don't want to overstep any boundaries because I understand religious beliefs, but are all of your students religious as well, and are you their teacher or are you the SO? I am only questioning this because I wouldn't want for the students to miss out on opportunity because of someone elses religious beliefs, and maybe if possible you could have someone else attend with them, like another teacher or whatnot, if they have to dance on Sunday?

I remember growing up that the local Dance Masters chapter had no competing on Sunday, because, as mentioned previously, this was when they held classes. From my understanding, you would need to be a Dance Masters member to participate. I am not sure if this is how every chapter runs their competitions or how they would feel about a school not par-taking in the classes each year (unless you were willing to allow your students to attend without you.)

I think the suggestion of a co-teacher, an adult assistant, or volunteer of some sort may work (if you are the only one limited.) A lot of pre-planning would be needed.

Also, you may want to call the individual competitions and speak with them. They may (or may not) be willing to work with you. I am sure that there are certain cities that traditionally only need Saturday. Possibly they can give you the feedback that you are looking for.

I have never done this comp, but I feel like Creation Dance Competition (i feel like it is a name like that) is based on a religious mission statement. Maybe they would avoid Sundays?

In Utah all conventions/competitions are friday and saturday. Since utah is mainly LDS .(mormon) no one really dances on sunday. I don't know if traveling is an option for you...just thought I'd throw that out there.!

Oh. P.s its big comps that come to utah n.y.c.d.a, L.a dance magic, jump, nuvo etc...

Hope that helps!!

I understand your issue. There are some really good points made by the other the posters. However, if you know you are going to encounter a scheduling conflict on a Sunday you can always choose your Sabbath Day to be prior to the competition or immediately after the competition like on a Monday. As long as you are choosing this day of rest to spend time with the Lord He will continue to bless you. We have had to do this occasionally with my family. I Hope this helps, because you know that it doesn't really matter what day you celebrate the Sabbath as long as you do it.

The competition "Dancer's Inc." runs Friday and Saturday, and has an optional convention on Sunday.

It is one of the few competitions that does not require you to attend the convention to be able to compete. =)

I have the same problem sometimes here in Florida with Fridays & Saturdays. Many of our Jewish customers will not participate in any activities on Friday or Saturday. It's impossible to accomodated everyone's religious beliefs!

Most competitions I've delt with will take special requests. but in doing so you lose the right to recieve high score awards , special awards and such. If you are only interested in the adjucation then it could work. Try Starpower, Star Quest,Beyond the Stars, Dancers inc just to name a few these may work with you. I guess it depend on were you live .

Just to confirm. We don't do competition on sundays. Dancers inc holds our convention classes on Sunday which yes are your choice to attend. (though I will say... your missing out on some fierce classes! wink wink.)

If anyone has any dancers inc related questions feel free to ask me through PM or go direct to their website...

Is it your competition Tyler or do you work for them? Anyways, tell them to come to Detroit so we can give them a try. There are a lot of competition studios here.

I have noticed that most competitions need 3 days because of the amount of routines competing. However, I had an issue with a few of my students that could not compete on Sunday morning because they had Sunday School. After a brief phone call to the Competiton, they arranged that my routines with those students be performing on Sunday evening. Most of the competitons we choose are extremely accomodating.
