Tumbling Skills For a 6 Year Old en>fr fr>en

I know at the age of six that kids don't have much in the way of tumbling skills, but I was wondering if anyone can suggest any ideas for me to give to her as I don't want her to feel too left out.

She is good with forward/backward rolls and has started to learn how to do handstands so can not quite do a proper one yet. Also have started her learning how to kick her legs over from one side to the other for a cartwheel which she does quite well.

I have organised some moves incorporating rolls, but I am looking for some ideas I can use for when the others are doing cartwheel based moves etc.

I have her doing some cartwheel practise when they start off, but I would like her to vary some things she is doing so it doesn't get too boring for her.

I have use of floor mats, crash mats and a wedge shape at the moment.
If you need to know any more info just ask.

Forward rolls and backward rolls can be really jazzed up by starting and finishing in different positions.

For forward rolls work on starting them and finishing them in different positions to be creative, joining several rolls together and then try joing different types of rolls together in a series. She can practise forward rolls going into different skills, have her practise a forward roll and then to a straight jump out of it, then try a tuck jump. She could even to a forward roll and then a 1/2 turn jump to go into a backward roll.

Backward rolls can also finish in lots of different positions like front support (push up position), straddle stand (legs apart and straight), pike stand (legs together and straight). With a wedge she could also begin practising backward rolls with straight arms, which will lead to the back extention roll to handstand.

Spend lots of time on handstands, trying to hold them as long as possible. Have her do handstands against a wall and handstands with someone holding her feet to get her used to the right sort of posistion. You can try tripod balances and headstands too.

Work quite a bit on bridges aswell as that will lead to many exciting skills such as walkovers. Try having her do a bridge with her feet up on a higher surface and work on bridge kickovers, as she gets these move down to a lower surface.

Do you have any sprt pf rebounding surface like a mini tramp, rebounder or spring board? This can be incredible for learning aerial awereness, have her practise differnet kinds of jumps off the t\rampoline like straight jumps, tuck jumps, star jumps, pike jumps, straddle pike jumps, split jumps, 1/2 turn jumps, full turn jumps and so on. She can also do forward rolls of the rebounding surface to the crash mats. This will lead to dive rolls and eventually front saults.
