Hey all,
I have a young lady (she JUST turned 7) that is doing her FIRST SOLO this year! How exciting! She is super spunky and beautiful!! (I'll be entering her into photogenic as well!)
She is not a fabulous turned yet, but has amazing extension and flexibility.
any ideas for songs? I'm open to ANY genre (my brain is fried already from all the choreography i've been doing!!)
I want to give her the amazing piece she deserves!
You think lyrical to show off her lines? with a cool prop? Maybe something with a rocking chair and teddy bear?? or an upbeat jazz?

I would do something that would really get at the judges like Amazing Grace or maybe Haleuah by Kate Vogel. |

If she's spunk and has a lot of energy you need to go jazz! You can still show off lines and extension in a jazz and you don't have to do a trillion pirouettes.
If you think she does better slow then go lyrical. Make the decison by what she does daily. Do you watch her in ballet/lyrical and in jazz? Make your decision of what style by what you think she would do the best in and what would help her grow. After all a solo should be a growing tool not just a dance!!! =)
Here are some suggestions:
Jazz
So Fierce So Fabulous - Jocelyn Enriquez
Work Me Down
Great Balls of Fire
Let's Bounce - Princess Diaries
Big Noise - Bette Middler
Musical theatre
Showoff - Sweet Charity
Kansas City - Smokey Joe's Cafe(good cd)
I want to be evil
I Want to Go to Hollywood - or just Hollywood not sure
Stuff like that there - Bette Middler
Flaunt It - The producers
Bla Bla Cha Cha - Petty Booka
Spanish Rose - Chita Rivera
Lyrical
Cinderella - Steven Curtis Chapman (he has lots of good songs)
Angels Watching over me - minipop kids
My Precious one
Over the Rainbow
The Prayer - Yolanda Adams
Hope this helps!!! |

When I think of spunky, I automatically think of Real Wild Child. There is a cute version (I think its by the Cheetah Girls). Its age appropriate and fun and spunky.
If she has great extension and flexibility and great energetic stage presence, jazz is your best bet |
