my studio is adding a CM class for 2 & 3 yr olds.

We need a little help on coming up with fun games and imaginative ideas to incorporate basic ballet/dance technique and keep them entertained at the same time.

Any suggestions???

Hi Tffany-
There are many very wonderful posts on dancenet from other teachers giving ideas and suggestions for classes for little ones. Use the search engine to find them. I've just recently gone back and reread old posts and was amazed at all of the creativity!

Props are the best investment.
Ribbons or scar teach port de bras. Hula hoops can be used for jumps or toe tapping. Drums can be used for marching and keeping the beat.
Use stories and act them out like We're going to the ice cream shop what are you going to have? Let's take the dog for a walk, run, hop etc. Let's pretend to be a ...animal, flamingo = retire, Frog = plie and jumping lots of fun ones here. Pretend that you are a seed and grow into a flower/tree/bush reach up to the sun, wilt when you need water, curl up when it rains...
I have some feet cutouts that we play a cross between musical feet and freeze dance with. We do a lot of mime, how do you say yes with your head, how do you say no, how do you say I don't know, things like that.
They enjoy a little of follow the leader, Mrs. Dancer says, Five little monkeys and the hokey pokey.
To keep them the most entertained plan for lots of activities. Some may only last a minute or two before you move on to the next one but you will be prepared for that. Also, the more excited you are about what you are doing the more excited/interested the children will be.
