Katee stretching in the kitchen!

Well, I was sitting around trying to write an essay for my AP US History class, when I realized that I hadn't posted any pictures on DDN in ages. So of course, I got out my webcam and went directly to the kitchen (leaving my half-written essay lonely and forgotten on my computer). Not that I'm procrastinating or anything....;)

I'm really proud of how far I've come in terms of flexibility, considering that only six months ago I could barely touch my toes. Actually, I think I couldn't. But I've been working ridiculously hard and stretching constantly (my non-dance friends can vouch for that one), so I'm hoping for some feedback and advice.

Sorry about the gross chlorine hair, I'd just gotten done swimming laps in my pool (whoop, finally getting better at butterfly!!). Oh yeah, and I know my expressions are pretty freaky looking. Apparently I can't stretch and look like a human being at the same time. Plus I was using a timer that gave me about three seconds to hit the button and get into position.

And voila, the zillions of Katee's happystretchypictures!

1. Right splits

2. Left splits

3. Butterfly stretch

4. Bending over in butterfly

5. Basic right leg stretch, not sure what it's called, but my left leg was folded in

6. Ditto on the left

7. Arabesque on the counter!

8. Developpe to the front Image hotlink - 'http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/chicatubachick/stretching%20august%2008/Photo162.jpg'

9. Same with a bent knee on supporting leg =/

10. Forward bend (this and my splits are what I'm happiest about, they were the hardest stretches for me to get)
Image hotlink - 'http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/chicatubachick/stretching%20august%2008/Photo157.jpg'

11. Stretching back

12. Attitude!

13. A la seconde

14. Same on the other side

You look really good! Just try to keep your hips square. :)

Gah, don't you hate APUSH? I've only had it for 1.5 days (unless you count summer homework...blech), but I'm ready to be done. :P

Your progress is really remarkable, considering you've only been stretching for 6months. well done!

You really need to make sure you're knees are straight. You look like you possibly have slightly hypo-extended knees, so that even when you feel that they're straight they look bent. This just means you need to work even harder to pull them into a truly straight position. My knees are a little hypo-extended, like yours, and although it takes a lot more extra effort and concentration, once you can get and keep your legs straight the improvement in your lines is immense and is well worth it.

Also remember to really really work on holding your turnout in your working leg. You're obviously pretty flexible so the turn out is definitely there you just need to concentrate on using your muscles to hold it at all times. Again its a bit of concentration and hard work, but again it's definitely worth it when you see the improvement.

Keep up the hard work! It's really paying off in terms of your flexibility and I'm sure you're going to keep making more and more excellent progress.

oh the joys of apush! i took it last year, and got a lovely score of 1 on my ap test. (and i studied like crazy.)

for starting recently, id say that you have made great progress! keep working at it. the more you strech, the more flexible you will get. and eventually you will start doing thing that you had no idea that you could do.

i dont know if you do this or not, but while youre in your split reach for your ankles and pull your head down. i felt that this really helped me strech out my legs, and was one of the things that i always had to do to warm up. also, if you have something thats low, like maybe a little stool or something, try placing your leg up on that while in your split. (for example, if youre in your left split, life your left leg up on the stool.)

congrads on your achievements as well!

You couldn't touch your toes six months ago?! Wow. You sure have improved. Just focus on squaring your hips (something I have to remind myself of every single day) and work on straightening those knees! But really, this is some fantastic progress!
