 Cheerleading Can I fly? en>fr fr>en By LoveMeForever Comments: 341, member since Sun May 20, 2007On Sat Aug 23, 2008 10:37 PM
So... I know this is a question for my coach, but it's the weekend and it's bothering my mind and I have to talk about it now. And before I go to my coach. I start practice Monday. It's a long story on why I'm starting in a bit late, my school works different, so I won't go into it.
So, I'm a sophomore, and I'm on my school's varsity cheer squad. I'm super flexible, and super strong. Height+weight aren't allowed on DDN, so I'm a bit above average height, and 120-125 pounds. Is that too heavy? Or is it really just most important to have the strength, flexibility, and trust? I really want to be a flyer and feel I do have the ability, I'm just not sure. Should I talk to my coach about it? I just don't want her to look at me and tell me I'm too heavy. 2 Replies to Can I fly? |

Hi,
Weight isn't really a major issue as long as you and your bases know what they are doing. When you fly you tense all your muscles which means you hold most of your weight and your bases don't.
Also yes, a coach should be more intrested in your strengh, flexablity and trust in your bases.
I just used a converter to see how much 120-125 pounds is lol. But that's not too heavy at all, as long as you can use your abs to hold yourself(Your coach will explain about this).
Good luck =]

The most important thing for a flyer is to stay tight!! I am a flyer right now and its super hard because I am new and all the other flyers have five months experience. Obviously you can't be 6 feet tall and 100 pounds over weight. Squeeze ever muscle, stay tight, and be comfortable. If you can do that, you can be a great flyer!! And definitely be aware of your body. I still have trouble with that. Good luck! |
