Now I finally know what to do in that situation!! =]

Thanks for the suggestions to remember a combination. I agree it's a good way to choreograph, too.

I generally have a good memory for choreography, but anything to make it even easier is welcome!

I too have been in classes where the combinations have been complex and difficult to follow. Most ballet combinations should follow a logic. In ballet cannon, there are set ways to execute movement and a rhythm and logic that easily flows. I have found that teachers who understand the logic and purpose of ballet movements (what a tendu prepares us for...etc) that their combinations are easier to follow because it follows a well thought out logic. Combinations should also make sense musically. I think when combinations fit musically and create the correct sense of musicality it makes the combination easier as well.

Best of luck in your future classes.

Another tip would be not to think of every step as an individual. If the combo is sous sous, plie, pirouette, land fourth, waltz, waltz, pique arabesque to fourth, pirouette, fouette, fouette, fouette, land fourth. Think of it as soussouspliepirouettelandfourth, waltzwaltzpiquearabesquetofourth, pirouettefouettefouettefouettelandfourth. Think of the steps are all put together into one, like one movement.

Thank you so much!! I have competition try outs today and we have to learn 2 ballet combos and I always have trouble remembering the middle section of the combos. Hopefully I won't have those "ARGGGGG!!!" moments anymore. :]

Thank you!!! I've been trying your method for a few weeks, and it really helps. I was having trouble to understand all the steps my teacher choose, since almost everyone in my class is more advanced than I am.

Thanks for sharing this tip!

Thanks so much! This is great, my ballet teacher doesn't "teach" us new steps, she just puts them into a combination and expects us to get it right away (but corrects us of course, she doesn't get mad). This will help a lot!

Thanks!! This helped so much! I was awful at rembering combinations, I would just twirl and kick up my legs, or usually i would stand and look completely lost. :) But i remeber my combinations now. yay!

It really is a great tip... and my favorite method of choreography as well... find the highlights in the music, fill in the rest as you go!

This definitely makes sense. Hopefully my teacher will not be watching while I wing it just before my fantastic finish.

That is interesting! I've never thought about doing that! I'll have to try it at my next dance class or whenever I learn a new combination. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this!
One of my classes is an open class and I have a lot of trouble keeping up, especially with the unseen ones. I'll try this and hopefully it helps!
