Thank you! This should help me a lot. I think that my main problem, though, is that I sometimes "zone out". I hope that this will help me stay more focused :)

sometimes just simply asking the teacher to go over the routine once more can help you and probably others in your class if you were finding an exercise difficult to remember... yea the teacher might get annoyed but she will get over it and you'll be able to the combination way better...

^That may be true, but I think of learning combinations as a skill that that not only can be learned but something I can improve at. Also, the teacher (I'm one myself) expects you to learn them, so while it is good to ask questions when you are not sure, the teacher shouldn't spoon feed you the combination.

Happy Dancing! :)

I must admit-when I saw this, I laughed (well giggled actually). I'm the kind of student who will sometimes space out and not pay attention at all, choosing instead to stick in the back to learn the combination...more like chat with my friends and then watch quickly to stick it in my mind :] shh...don't tell my teachers!

This post is extremely well thought out and it is such a good piece of advice. Another thing that might work in combination with this linear approach is repeating the steps to yourself as the teacher says them. Echoing the steps in your head helps keep the steps fresh in your mind and decreases the panic that sets in when a long combination comes up in class

This is one of the best tips I've ever gotten regarding ballet. This and turns are my main issues in ballet. About time to remedy that! Next up, 32 fouettes. Any tips for THAT? ;-P
