Irish - Champs Your favorite split-curl wig? en>fr fr>en By rincedragonfly Comments: 4493, member since Sun Mar 20, 2005On Sun Nov 02, 2008 07:55 PM
So I'm in the market for a new split curl wig for the WRO. I'm making a new dress, so a new wig is in order.
I have looked at the Morgan II and the Katie K online.
Right now I'm wearing the Erin (old, right?! Yikes!), and I've had it for something like 3 or 4 years now. It looks great still, and I kinda split the curls...but I want a really nice split curl one.
So any recommendations? 19 Replies to Your favorite split-curl wig? |

The Maeve Senior from emeraldkeyonline.com is really nice, I just got a new one and I've had the one before for about a year and a half (and I'm not very careful with my wigs). It's really lightweight, looks great onstage and is relatively cheap for a wig. |

For my next wig I plan on buying the Hannah from Celtic Creations (www.irishdanceshop.com). Right now I have a Jon Renaeu split curl which I love but it just isn't long enough for my height (I'm 5'11").
However, I did a ton of research, and the Maeve Senior and Sarah from Melaine Murphy seem like really popular choices! |

Our last wig was the Morgan II, which was nice. We currently have the Katie K and love it and it was about $40 cheaper than the Morgan II. So my vote would go to the Katie K. |

Oh, the Hannah looks really nice! I hadn't run across that one before...yeah, I'm only 5'3". Would the Hannah be too long for me?
Jiggymomma: Do you notice a difference in how the curls look? In the pictures that I see online, it looks like the Morgan II is a lot shinier with smaller curls, and the Katie K has thicker curls (for being loose curls). Is that just the pictures, or is that really a big difference? |

I just got the Darcy, and while it's not technically split curl, it's quite large and totally gorgeous. |

I e-mailed the company and they said that it usually reached 3-4 inches below shoulder length on most dancers and was comparable to the Anna wig by Camelia Rose, which I have seem plenty of 5'3" dancers pull off so I'm sure you would be fine.
If it turns out that you decide that it is the wig you want, I would e-mail them. I just used the form on the website and got a very kind response within a week.
Good luck! |

Ah! Thanks for answer, mrc24!
Now...I'm wondering what the length difference is between the Hannah and the Morgan II? I think that may possibly be the deciding factor for me... |

I have the Morgan II and I LOVE it! I seriously hated wigs before I got it and now it's a loving relationship. The curls are shiny yet natural looking (well at least as far as wigs go). I always get lots of compliments on it. It is a good length for me as I am 5'9" and need a bit of a longer wig. I've had for a year and it has held up remarkably well. I highly reccommend it! |

I am ordering the Morgan II today. It's the one that will match my hair color the best, and I really like how it looks in the picture. Thanks for all of your input! |

We have the Jon Reneau "Ashley" wig that we got from Red Ox. But it doesn't seem to be available anymore. Anyone know where we can get one? It needs replacing after 4 years, and we really liked it! |

I have the Morgan wig as well and I love it, its still in really good condition despite the wear and tear of a year of competition... here is my most recent picture of 2 days ago
I love the split curl look as well, more realistic, and natural looking, I have seen the Katie K in person as well, so either the Morgan or Katie K will be a wonderful choice. |

ceallaighaine, Thanks so much! If they are jon renau wigs, then the Molly is the same as the one we have, though the one in the picture looks a little rough around the edges. I will have to contact them to find out. Thanks again! |

rincedragonfly-
I actually think that the Katie K has smaller curls and I think they are both equally shiny in person. Check out the pictures under my user- my dd has the Katie K wig on in my avatar picture and the Morgan II on when she is wearing the light blue dress. My dd prefers the Katie K wig, but probably mostly because it is newer and less frizzy |

Edited by BethanysMAID (186377) on 2008-11-04 02:08:52 typo again - I never spot them when I proofread until I've hit submit - arghh
DD has the Sarah Junior from Melanie Murphy (see avatar pic)
I really liked it, but it is not wearing that well (mind you none of her wigs have - I think all the bouncing around she does when she is not dancing - just excited - is hard on wigs)

Definetly the Camelis Rose "Anna". I used to wear the melains gammage one but it's nothing compared to the Anna! |

I actually ordered the Morgan II on Monday evening, and it just came in the mail today! Really gorgeous wig. I can't wait to wear it onstage! Now I just don't know what to do with my hair in front...I don't know what is going to look right with a split curl... |

Do a poof of some sort. If you can manage it, a curly poof looks SO GOOD with this wig (I'm waiting till my bangs get long enough for me to do a good curly poof again). A poof looks good too. Swoops can look okay, but it has to be more of a loose one as opposed to a slicked back and stiff swoop. |

I don't know if this picture helps at all, but I do sort of a poofed swoop in the front of mine, and I really like how it looks plus it is super easy! This pic is from a talent show after I danced, so it is a bit messy. I usually make it neater and poofier for a feis.
If you'd like, PM me and I can explain how to do it.
Good luck!! |
