Teachers - Costumes Anyone experience with IDS costumes? en>fr fr>en By lidwina Comments: 2418, member since Sat Dec 30, 2006On Tue Nov 04, 2008 03:47 PM
I applied for an account for IDS (international dance supplies).
They told me I had to apply.
I said "I did!", but they denied.
*sigh*
I applied again.
They send me a huge list asking for (among others):
*my bank account
*two trade references
*my date of birth
*number of students
*disciplines I teach
I HAVE NOT EVEN SEEN THEIR CATALOGUE! I don't even know if I like what they offer!
Can someone tell me more about them? No other company asked me so much before they wanted to show me what they have to offer. 7 Replies to Anyone experience with IDS costumes? |

I use IDS almost exclusively. Their prices are fantastic both for costumes and standard ballet uniform.
They are strict about it being trade only. They have had a lot of parents/general public trying to set up accounts but they only supply bona fide dance/stage schools and dance shops.
They have only just (in the last 30 days) set up online ordering. I set up my account by phoning them and they are really friendly. My 6 year old daughter tried to set up an account with them (little madam) and they phoned me by tracing some details and were laughing their socks off about it.
Their delivery times are also super fast (at least in the UK it is) I can order almost anything except made to order items obviously) and get it the next day. |

I sent them a mail with a copy of my diploma and of my registration at the Chamber of Commerce. I explained to them why I did not wanted to answer some of there questions. Plus that their huge list asking for detailed information about me, without haven't given any information about themselves yet, didn't not make me feel welcome as a new client.
Today they answered me. It was no need to answer all their questions to get an account with them. They will give me an account.
They will see if they have to change their list of questions.
^stardo, I don't know if they deliver to the USA. They call themselves International Dance Supplies, so that would/could mean yes. |

I was recomended them as a source of dance supplies and when I got the list of information they wanted I thought the same as you, why should I give out my personal details to a firm I know nothing of. Also emails aren't a secure way of sending detailed personal information anyway. I just gave up at that point and didn't bother with them. |

The info they asked for is standard info that 90% of companies ask for when you open a trade account in the UK.
I dealt with them by phone, they are really helpful people. |

When I took over the school, I phoned them and told them. I have taken over the previous owners reference name.
I have had a lot of good experiences with them. next day delivery on costumes, leotards, catsuits, dvd s , masks, tambourines - but was let down by them with a delivery of net, which they assured me they would get to me by a specific date, and then didn't. I had 25 parents, and 20 pupils in to cut the material, and no material - gggrrrr.
However, the good experiences still outweigh the bad, and i will certainly be using them again this year - but not for tutu net!!! |

I got their catalogue today plus my login codes. The login codes don't work (yet), have told them and am waiting for a solution.
I'm not very impressed by their costumes. Because a lot of them look like they don't fit properly. Is it just me? Is it just bad photography? Or do they really 'flobber' around the body?
On the cover are two girls in the same pink outfit. It looks good on the standing girl, but with the sitting girl it is all wrinkled around the body, it seems to big. How can a costume company put that on the cover of their catalogue? Not really good marketing to me. And the wrinkles continue inside, page after page. |
