I learned it when I was 7. It was my absolute favourite for quite a while. All that nice noise from the clickers!

Hi there!
I learned it when I was about 7, but didn't compete in it until intermediate (9yrs old).
When my dance teacher first teaches the jig, she does "modified versions" (especially for the younger ones)and works up to the exact steps.

I was probably about 9 when I started learning the jig. I started it towards the end of novice, so that I would be ready to dance it when I became an intermediate.

I've just gone to intermediate ( aged 12 ) and have just learnt it, I have not done it at a comp yet although I've been to a few comps that have had it.

I was taught the jig probably around eight years old, this is also when I start teaching my students (depending on how long they've been dancing), otherwise once they are in novice, I get them ready for intermediate

I believe my daughter was 10 when she started learning the jig. She learnt it in her highland class (not her competitive class), so she only learnt the basics. When my daughter was eleven, (probably around the time when she needed one more stamp to get into intermediate), she started learning the jig for her exams, and two months later she danced it in competition. It is now one of her favourite dances.

I learnt the jig when i had to do it for my exams, and eventually had to do it in competition. I believe i was 3 stamps from intermediate, maybe 10 years old.

I was 7 when I started learning the Jig (and Hornpipe). I was in Novice and Intermediate came soon after, and I started doing it in shows and stuff.

I was a late start to dancing so I didn't learn it as early as some of my classmates. I love the Jig! I danced it in public for the first time at the Nationals.

I'm 20 years old and just started Highland dancing about a year ago. I started on a few jig movements just a few months ago. I can't wait to get more experience under my belt to finish learning the jig and hornpipe!

I started learning jig close to the end of my second year of dancing. I started learning it about a month before I went Intermediate, and then danced it in my first Intermediate competition, albeit poorly. I would say it took me another two months of practice after that to actually become competent at that dance, i.e. until I got a gold for it. I was fourteen (nearly fifteen) years old when I learned it.
I learned jig before I learned Johnnie, Laddie, Sailors (though I started learning it VERY shortly after), Blue Bonnets, Village Maid, Scotch Measure, or Earl of Errol.

My daughter was 5 when she learned the jig and danced it at competitions. Took her a while (until she was 6) to get a 2nd place in the 9 years per-open group. She was so proud and pleased.

I started to learn the jig a couple of years ago (when I turned 41) and I'm now practicing for my silver level. If I ever make it into Intermediate (4 stamps away with only two competitions down in Novice), I may do one competition with jig, but not many more! I have a love/hate relationship with the dance. I love it, it hates me ;o)

I started learning the jig when I was around 11 years old. I started dancing later than most dancers do.

My DD started doing bits and pieces for fun when she was 8. She did not do it seriously until 9 in the months leading up to her first intermediate comp.

I believe that I was 9 years old when I learned it. I remember getting really frustrated about the "cross and click" last step

My DD started at 10. Her teacher makes them wait until half way through Novice. It's a treat they have to earn!

My daughter began learning the jig while still in novice when she was 10, but didn't compete in jig until 11.
