Hey,
Tryouts are only 8 days away and I'm really excited. My partner for tryouts made poms last year so hopefully she'll help me a little, but the problem is she's a rhythmic gymnast (in other words she's REALLY flexible), so I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to try out with her cause she is really flexible and she'll make me look bad. Also, once again I've been having trouble with my double pirouettes. It seems like some days I get them and other days I can't and it really frustrates me! Does this happen to you?

Thanks,
Jenny

Well personally if I were in your shoes I wouldnt wanna try out with someone REALLY flexible because then it might make you look as if your a lot less flexible then you really are. But flexibility isnt all that counts do all the moves really sharp and SMILE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT! theres a girl on my team that isnt that good but she smiles real hard and puts on a good show and thats a big reason she made it. But about the flexibility I would hold my splits for a minute every day on both sides and the middle and it honestly helps i saw an improvement in two days and also when you hold your splits put on some music it helps the time pass by a lot faster. and then for your doubles at try outs I did A LOT of crunches till i could really feel my abs throbbing and that helped me find my center. Make sure your not leaning when you turn stay on top of your leg and even though this sounds cheezy act like there is a string on your head pulling you to the ceiling , my teacher told me to do that and it helped and also spot and really plie in your prep and make sure as soon as you start turning your knee goes right up to posse. wow this is getting really long but I hope i helped and tell me how try outs go
GOOD LUCK!!!

p.s my best advice is try to have fun at try outs! if you do the judges will notice and you never know it might just help you get on the team....

Honestly if i were you i would be afraid to tryout with the gymnast but looking at it from a different point of view, look at it as an oppertunity. If you can hold your own with a gymnast that has already been on the team, then that looks AWESOME. A few pieces of advice, stretch every day up until tryouts and work on those turns. Remember working on turns does not mean you have to actually do them full out. An exercise that alway has helped me is you stand with your feet together on relave and have your arms in a t. Hold that for an eight count and then snap your left leg into pasee and bring your arms in (still on relave). hold this for an eight count and then go back to your feet together then lift your right. It will really work balance and strengthen your calves.

P.S. good luck at tryouts, have a good time. And really try to enjoy it! :)
