My parents are "suggesting" to me that the competition girls wear PINK lipstick this year opposed to the bright RED. I wore RED, and I think it looks better on stage. They claim PINK just looks better on the girls. Well, hello!!! this is stage makeup, not the prom!
So, I'm going to stand strong with my RED lipstick policy, but I'm just curious of what color you put on your dancers? Younger ones? Older girls? 22 Replies to RED Lipstick |

we don't dance on stages but every once in a while for solos, we dance on gym floors. We usually wear a rich pink that is a cross between red/pink if that makes sense. we wear red if the costume is mainly red and looks funny with pink.
I'm curious to see what kind or color of eyeshadow everyone wears??? |

Depends on the dance and/or color of costume.
Our modern and hip-hop wear neutral tones (like just gloss).
Our babies usually wear BRIGHT pink, unless they are wearing red, then they wear red.
Most of the older classes wear red, unless they are wearing pink then they wear bright pink.
We require brown or grey eyeshadow. |

I always wore red...unless you have a pink costume then I think pink looks better.
One year we wore different shades for each costume. It was the worst thing ever! Trying to take off the bright red and switching to the ugliest purple shade ever and then back to red, then pink. It was insane. RED unless they have a pink costume |

Always red...always have, always will. The only exception is for photos and then they wear street makeup in neutral tones.
And we always have shades of brown and brick for eyeshadow, I think it's the traditional ballerina in me but it is tried and true so why change it when it ain't broke?!! |

I have always been a red girls as well, but I saw this recently, and it has me thinking...
blog.danceruniverse.com . . .
Of course she's not saying pink, either, and by all means, I'm not advocating giving in to parents. Its just something to think about for all of us red-lipstick-lovers out there! |

I explain why I use red. I tell them strong make up is because the stage light wash out he faces like having a flash from a camera too close to the face. On stage, their faces look normal, but up close it looks like too much.
If they are against it you can always say, "Oh, well I would miss having her perform with the class." They will get the point. |

When you have stage lighting of any kind, it totally washes you out. Red. |

I always wore red and it was flattering on some girls, awful on others, but it stood out on stage regardless.
But now I see this blog.danceruniverse.com . . . from JAM and wonder... I think it's great in theory, although I haven't seen it in person yet. So I'm not personally vouching for it, but I'm certainly open to it as a possibility! |

I have always worn red growing up and my dancers wear red unless there is reason for them not to. Ie: one year my girls did a routine that called for thier make-up to be completely pale..no lipsticka nd minimal eye make-up..otherwise it is RED.
Also I have another reason for this decision (besdies that I want everyone uniform) I teach a variety of different ethnic backgrounds, I have found red is one of the few colours that is universal. I would not be able to use pink or brown on some of my girls because due to their skin tones, the lipstick woudn't show up. Simple and makes sense to me.
Make-up for all my girls (young and old) is normally brown/deep purple eyeshadow colours, black liquid eyeliner and black mascara. Blush is dependant on skin tone for my girls. |

Always red, unless otherwise specified.
I have 1 class this year that will not be wearing colored makeup at all. They will have pale foundation, smudged black eyeliner & black lip gloss. They are doing a tap dance to "The Beautiful People" while wearing straight jackets.
I CANT WAIT!! |

Our competition team wears red. We used to wear pink, but changed last year in response to comments we received from judges in past competitions. |

99% of the time its Red. Its always been that way and should remain that way. I've worn red lipstick every year since my very first recital and my students have always worn red. Unless the routine itself calls for something different(like the Beautiful People routine above) it should always be red. This is stage makeup not a beauty contest! |

Red for our teens & seniors, but fuchsia for our juniors (ages 7-11). We use the makeup kits put together by Rachel Ross, who does the stage makeup workshops for Showstopper comps and has her own line on her website. This is what she recommends, & we've always gotten great compliments from the judges on our makeup, both for the younger and the older girls. |

Red all the way. If they are wearing pink people sitting 20 rows back will not be seeing the girls faces because they will be totally washed out by the stage lights. Red is a must in my book. |
