Could you PLEASE be more specific? There are lots and lots of posts saying "I need a song for my solo, any ideas?" And that's it. Lots of posts get pushed to the bottom without any replies and I can't help but feel bad that the poster never got any song suggestions, but most of the time the posts are just too vague. So before you click "submit" check to make sure your post has the following:

1. What genre of dance you want to do. From what I see, most posts are about lyrical, and I think some people assume that when they say "solo" they mean lyrical solo and leave out the genre. That's just what I see. Be aware that this board is not specific to a specific style of dance. So specifying the genre of dance would be really helpful.

2. Whether it is a solo or a group dance, and how many people if it is a group. Some songs are a lot better for solos, some songs are a lot better for groups. Some songs are great for a larger group of dancers (say 10+), others are really good for a trio/foursome (which, at my studio, would qualify as a group dance). So that could help a whole lot.

3. What genre/style/tempo/etc. of song you are looking for. If you are doing a tap routine, do you want to do it to a more recent, upbeat and fast song? Or do you want a more classy 20's song? If you are doing jazz, do you want a sassy broadway-type song? Or do you want a more edgy and dark song? If you're doing lyrical or modern, well there's tons and tons of styles out there. If you just say "I need a song for my lyrical solo." It doesn't help too much. There are literally thousands and thousands of songs out there perfect for a lyrical dance. And songs for modern don't even need lyrics, so that selection is just as wide. If you know of some songs you like or songs you danced to in the past and whether or not you liked the style, that is a big help.

4. What ideas you already have for the dance. Do you want to do a dance based on a theme (jungle, nightmare, disease, all stuff I've done in the past) and you want a song that can fit? Do you want to dedicate the dance to someone or centralize the dance around a theme (death of a parent/friend, anorexia, etc.)? If you are choreographing it, do you already know what kind of movement you want (sharp, flowing, fierce, etc.)? This can help us think of a song that may fit this. And if you don't know what you want to do, try and think about it a little bit before posting. But if you're really open to anything, say that.

5. Your age or level of experience/At what kind of event the dance will be performed. I put these two together because they both help in the same way. Basically, some songs are best when danced by an older, advanced dancer and would look great at a dance competition. Some songs would look best on a younger dancer and could fit in a school talent show. Some songs require a certain level of life experience, and some require a certain level of innocence. Some songs would fit a performance in a showcase better than a competition, some songs might fit a competition better than a talent show.

And I'd like to point out one thing:

There are stickies that list tons and tons of songs for dancing. There is one for every genre of dance. Even one for kids. Please check these first. Also, scroll down the page and see if anyone else was looking for the same thing as you and already posted a topic about it. Read those replies first before posting a whole new topic asking for the same thing.

I have tons and tons of suggestions for music to dance to, as I am sure most of the DDN members do. I even have an alphabetized (by artist) list of lyrical songs, and it spans a good 50 pages. I'm constantly looking for more and more music to download, and most of the music I download I get because I can dance to it. But when I read a post that only says they need a song, I have no idea what to suggest. So please be more specific in your posts! People will definately give you good suggestions if you are more clear about what you are looking for.
