I'm a first-timer with ordering and I didn't realize how much trouble it is to find costumes for the larger students. I'm in a rut and I need recommendations for the most affordable costume companies that carry plus sizes. I am finalizing this week, so quick responses are much appreciated! Thank you!

Well I cannot think of a single company where you can just order 3x, but most of the companies will make that costume for you. There will be a price difference but a majority of all the costume companies will accomodate you in this process.

They would consider this a special order, I suggest select 3 options for costumes. Then contact the companies and ask your questions and get a price.

Curtain Call has a ton of costumes that come in larger sizes. I think Dansco does too. Sometimes it's alot harder to find thost larger costumes and really think about how they are going to look on those larger girls. You want them to feel comfortable too. Just talking from experience. Good luck

Is it an adult or child student? If its a child, perhaps you could choose a costume that comes in both child and adult sizes and see if her size matches anything on the adult size chart?

You should try Costume Gallery. I have 1 girl out of 11 that is a 3x costume (the rest of the girls are very tiny) and they had the most options for plus sized costumes that wouldn't make the others look "lost" in the costume. You also might want to consider the arms of costumes when you are choosing. This was an issue I had with the same girl last year. Her costume fit her but the sleeves were too tight, they had to cut them, order extra material from the company on a rush order and re-make the sleeves. I suggest looking for something flowy. Also, be sure to look at the prices, because larger costumes cost more from MOST companies. Depending on how much you upcharge, you may be able to eat the cost if its only one or two costumes. If its more costumes, or you don't charge very much, you need to warn parents ahead of time that they will have to pay extra. In my experience, the best thing to do is include it in the costume letter, like there will be a $x charge for XL costumes and above. that way you don't single anyone out, and its there for everyone to see. Some companies don't charge more until 2X, but some start at 1X.

It may be too late for you to include this in your costume literature this year, but its something to think about.

Also, I know that Curtain Call has larger sizes readily available, because we used them this year and had to order some larger costumes.

Costume Depot has 3X I believe. I had to order a few last year. Also, most companies will let you special order them. You will have to pay extra but there's not much more you can do. Star Styled has special ordered 3X for me in the past.

Curtain Call has some up to a 3X, as well as ALGY. Reverance carries up to a 6X!

Thank you so much, everyone! It will be so nice to have accounts with more costume companies so next year I have more options early on! I did some calling and I only have two catalogues right now that would have the larger sizes available.

Costume Gallery is the one I most use for larger sizes. Some companies will make larger sizes, but will only show it on the price list NOT in the catalog. BUT - you should beware that they will charge you significantly more for the 1X, 2X and 3X sizes. You will need to pass that cost on to the student...and need to prepare them for such.
