I'm in a rut. I usually don't have trouble coming up with recital songs, but I'm really struggling this year. Anyone care to share what they've used (and the singer or album) for 3-year old tap, 4 or 5 year old ballet, and 4 or 5 year old tap?

Do you have specific costumes picked out? Or a certain theme you need to work around? Knowing this may help me come up with some ideas for you.

No costumes picked out yet and no theme. It's open season! (We used to have themes, but some of the teachers found it too limiting so we discontinued the practice a few years ago.)

I found the most success when the kids can really get into the songs. That way if they aren't dancing (rather, if they forget the choreography) they can at least sing along!

I have used:

Just can't wait to be king
Macho Man
Supercalafrajalistic....from mary poppins :)
Its my party
Crocodile Rock

There has been some others, but those have been the most successful.

I tought 4,5, and 6 year old this year and were dressed as train conductors. We used several songs but the two they loved was Cowboy Troy I play chicken with the train and they also liked the song locomotion.

We've used a lot of the Kimbo adn Al Gilbert songs and dances for the little ones for yeas. Some favorites of mine are: My Dancing Doll Has Two Left Feet; Cuddly Ducks; Be My Little Baby Bumblebee; Dancing Poodles; Deodorized Skunks; I'm So Glad I'm Me; come Up & See Me Sometime....and many more.
Some other that we've used that were very cute:
Shake A Tail Feather; Suzy Snowflake; Hound Dog; How Much Is That Doggie In The Window; Baby Mine; Brahms Lullaby; Sugar Plum Fairy; Baby Take A Bow; Thank Heaven For Little Girls; Shake Your Booty; Ice Ice Baby; Yellow Polka Dot Bikini; California Girls; lots of Shirley Temple songs; Oh You Beautiful Doll. I've been teaching for 37 years, so the list could go on and on. PM me if you like any of the above and have trouble finding them.

Walkin On Sunshine

The songs I'm using this year:

But my absolute favorite is an Al Gilbert song to Kitty Rock. It is so cute! I use it about every 3-5 years
